Process Metallurgist - Youngstown, Ohio - JOB 24-00152 Salary Range: $115K-$125K Permanent Position with Benefits Youngstown area manufacturer is seeking a Process Metallurgist (PM).This position will provide operational and project support related to order processing and the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of processes and products that safely and cost-effectively meet or exceed customer demands for quality, consistency, and on-time performance. The PM will coordinate activities with Supply Chain, Quality, Operations, and others internally to ensure compliance with company and customer quality procedures and specifications. The PM will also interact with other members of the organization and external resources to collaborate on various projects and initiatives, adhering to non-disclosure and other confidentiality procedures. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Demonstrates company values and shares the organizational commitment to safety, quality, productivity, and a high-performance workforce through positive employee relations. • Ensure personal compliance with safety policies and rules. Promote a safety culture. • Ensure personal compliance with applicable regulatory standards (safety, environmental, health), reporting any issues not immediately resolvable to appropriate manager. Process/Product Development/Improvement: • Lead and manage assigned product development initiatives and projects, ensuring timely and effective results that support cost effective implementation of customer demands, including but not limited to: • Developing new inlay/matrix for barrels • Analyzing and developing new products • Initiate, develop, and implement plans that will improve existing process and product quality and consistency, in line with objectives established by management. • Initiate, develop, and implement manufacturing plans, processes and procedures related to new products, in line with objectives established by management. • Review and investigate customer claims and internal CARs and prepare resolution reports, as assigned. • Develop capabilities regarding SPC, SQC, Lean, etc. • Develop, build, and report on metrics related to process development and production, utilizing computer technology to ensure timely and efficient communication. • Oversee bi-metallic casting related activities including product recipes, testing, NDE, and subcontracted processes. • Align product and testing priorities within furnace production schedules through appropriate personnel. • Optimize and ensure casting material utilization without affecting product/quality integrity. • Provide backup support for Casting Manager and/or another team members as appropriate. • Document Control -- ensure casting records, charts, furnace maps, and shop orders are complete, correct and signed off. • Perform as a business materials and additive manufacturing expert across all manufacturing locations and processes in Failure Mode / Root Cause Analysis [FMEA] and mentor and lead in process change for abatement and control. • Participate in the Specific Product Design (SPD) process to meet customer expectations. • Review test results for compliance with product specifications/customer requirements. • Determine root cause and ensure implementation of corrective actions through analysis of rejects and non-conformities, interacting directly with applicable internal and external parties to resolve customer-generated complaints and ensure satisfaction. Responsibilities: • Travels as required to support customer demands, which may include limited international travel (approximately 10-20% travel). Experience: • Minimum of 5 years as a process or product metallurgist in a machining environment with heavy emphasis on shop-floor product/process development and improvement activities. • Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated management of complex projects
