GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direction of a Perinatologist, specializes in the performance of diagnostic. ultrasound procedures to aid in the evaluation of pathological entities as prescribed by a physician. Performs related functions according to department protocols. Utilizes independent judgment in determining appropriate imaging techniques, patient positioning, and safety practices.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Explains examination procedure to patients and prepares patient for the examination. Obtains additional information about the patient’s medical history as necessary.

• Prepares procedure room and regularly replenishes stock such as linen and related supplies.

• Reviews clinical data on requisition, analyzes anatomical structure of patient, sets up equipment and, following protocols, and performs the procedure.

• Manually controls the equipment to obtain the proper diagnostic information for the area of the body being studied.

• May assist Perinatologist in performing diagnostic invasive procedures. Prepares and sets up sterile equipment, physiological monitors, pressure injectors, and imaging equipment required for the procedure. Ensures the adequate supplies such as needles, catheters, etc. are on hand and properly stored.

• Completes all necessary work sheets, logs, and other patient records.

• Performs all documentation in the medical record as necessary, as well as within the radiology information system to support all clinical and billing functions.

• Demonstrates on a consistent basis Team member standard of excellence including AIDET, open communication, responding in a timely manner, displaying a positive attitude, fostering innovation, respecting diversity, etc.

• Performs Quality Assurance procedures as appropriate PACS: resolves any/all image exceptions and ensures high quality image delivery into PACS; including viewing of images into PACS and confirming image/series counts.

• Reviews and confirms as necessary with Perinatologist clinical protocols before preforming study.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required.

• Must be registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), or eligible candidate to sit for an ARDMS examination.

• Must maintain required hours of continued medical education.

• Healthcare Provider certification required (BCLS).

• Minimum 2 years of Maternal Fetal experience Preferred.

• Nuchal Translucency certification Preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

• May work in the hospital or at one of the Medical Centers.

• May be exposed to high-voltage equipment.

• May be exposed to potentially contagious patients.
