OrePac Building Products Operations Manager in Wilsonville, Oregon

Job Title: Operations Manager

Pay & FSLA Status: Competitive Compensation, D.O.E.; Salary exempt

Regular Schedule & Shift: Monday – Friday, Day Shift

Regular Weekly Hours: Full-time/40 hours per week (overtime as needed)

Paid Time Off (PTO): 80 hours accrued year 1; 120 hours accrued annually after year 1

Paid Sick Time: 40 hours annually

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Operations Manager is responsible for the daily management and administration of all activities related to the operation of the warehouse, door shop, and paint booth. This position is responsible for providing superior levels of management and leadership to a team of direct-reports and building an environment that focuses on employee engagement and OrePac’s core values. This is a labor-intensive position that requires heavy lifting. Individuals are regularly on their feet throughout the day and may work at heights as required. Safety is a priority.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage staffing in accordance with company policies and applicable state and federal laws, including:

  • Interviewing and hiring qualified candidates.

  • Training, developing, and appraising employees (including new hire orientation and performance reviews).

  • Planning, assigning, and directing work.

  • Rewarding and disciplining employees (including termination).

  • Taking corrective action as necessary in a timely manner.

  • Addressing complaints and resolving personnel issues.

  • Establish operational policies and procedures to ensure the effective, efficient, and safe operations for the warehouse, door shop, and pre-finish departments. These policies and procedures must be consistent with OSHA standards. Responsible for coordination of training staff on these policies and procedures.

  • Drive performance of established department goals and organize workforce to accomplish expected results within budget and on schedule.

  • Review the effectiveness of operating procedures, maintenance, space utilization, and protection of equipment.

  • Confer with department heads to ensure coordination of warehouse activities with activities of other functions such as production, sales, records control, and purchasing.

  • Build a top-performing operational team and instill a culture of accountability, results, and flexibility in order to meet and/or exceed customer fulfillment expectations. Responsible for staffing of warehouse, door shop, and pre-finish personnel and assignments of duties.

  • Inspect physical condition of warehouse and equipment.

  • Prepare work orders for repairs and requisitions for replacement of equipment.

  • Direct salvaging of damaged or used material.

  • Develop and implement the company's safety program and plant protection activities to minimize industrial accidents and injuries.

  • Establish and maintain a safe work environment per OSHA guidelines and emergency procedures.

  • Act as an OrePac representative when working with safety and enforcement agencies regarding health and safety standards, fire regulations, environmental air, and water pollution codes.

  • Responsible for meeting efficiency, production, and profitability standards as periodically established.

  • Support the development of lean principles and training. Foster an environment of Continuous Improvement in all aspects of the business: People, Costs, Production, Safety, Environment, and Quality.

  • Forklift duties may be assigned to this position. Any assigned forklift duties will first require taking and passing a forklift training course and obtaining a certificate. Forklift duties will include staging and/or stacking material neatly and safely, operating the forklift in a safe manner, filling the forklift with propane fuel, and regularly checking the forklift fluid levels.

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Experience in leading teams, including the ability to effectively and efficiently handle personnel conflicts while successfully driving company and department initiatives and goals.

  • Ability to problem solve minor to complex challenges within the department utilizing the tools and resources available and escalate the matter to a manager when appropriate.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write routine reports and correspondence and the ability to speak effectively before groups of people consisting of employees, customers, and/or members of leadership.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to compute basic math problems to include addition, subtraction, and multiplication.

  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • Mechanical aptitude. Experience with hand tools, power tools, and the ability to read a tape measure.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 years of Operations Manager or related industry experience (preferred).

  • Any combination of education, training, or experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position will be accepted in place of the education and/or experience requirements listed for this role.

    SAFETY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Report all incidents and accidents to one’s immediate supervisor immediately or within 24 hours.

  • Maintain the work area in a safe and healthful condition.

  • Report, and whenever possible correct, unsafe working conditions to branch leadership.

  • Operate vehicles while in the course of employment in a safe and lawful manner.

  • Provide assistance to reduce or eliminate workplace hazards.

  • Comply with company drug testing policies and procedures.

  • Comply with company Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) policies. OrePac will provide required PPE to employees.
