       Job Summary Charles H. Barrows STEM Academy seeks a certified World Language Spanish teacher to deliver K-8 World Language Spanish instruction. All students at CHB STEM Academy receive Spanish language instruction. The ideal candidate holds World Language Spanish 7-12 (023) certification and Elementary-level Foreign Language Instruction (101. Both certifications are required for this position. Candidates with secondary World Language Spanish certification and a commitment to earning the 101 certification will also be considered. Candidates should familiarize themselves with Windham and its large and diverse Spanish speaking community. Candidates should be able to recognize and differentiate for various native Spanish speaker linguistic profiles, as well as those of native English speakers learning Spanish as a foreign/world language.Essential Duties

  • Ensure safety of students

  • Follows the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined and approved by the Windham Board of Education

  • Sets and reinforces clear expectations and routines

  • Manages the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain an advantageous learning environment

  • Prepares lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, uses appropriate techniques, and serves the needs of all learners in the classroom

  • Demonstrates strong content knowledge

  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required

  • Conducts parent/teacher conferences

  • Assesses student learning on continual basis and identify areas of intervention if needed

  • Keeps parents up-to-date of student progress through use of interim reports, report cards, and/or conferences

  • Designs instruction to meet the needs of all students through both individual and small group settings as needed

  • Designs and implements assessments that measure progress and uses assessments to refine curriculum and instructional practices

  • Designs clear and specific learning assessments

  • Maintains a positive learning environment that encourages open communication between the teacher and learner

  • Maintains a positive school community image that encourages ethical student behavior

  • Maintains ongoing communication with parents

  • Assists in the selection of textbooks, equipment and other education materials

  • Establishes and maintains professional relationships

  • Participates in professional learning by attending seminars and workshops to improve instructional practice and positively affect student achievement

  • Has knowledge of teaching methods, materials and educational practices for secondary school teaching

  • Maintain respect at all times for confidential information

  • Assist with Physical Management (PMT), if needed.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the selection of textbooks, equipment and other education materials

  • Establish and maintain professional relationships

  • Participate in professional development by attending seminars, workshops, taking college coursework, etc.

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor of the Arts or Bachelor of Science

  • CT World Language Spanish 7-12 (023)andCT World Language Instructor, Elementary (101) certifications required

  • Proficiency in Spanish required

  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Windham Board of Education may find appropriate

Additional Working Conditions:

  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue

  • Interaction among children

  • Operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions, i.e. being prepared to come to work on school days except calamity days

  • Repetitive hand motion, e.g., computer keyboard, typing, calculator, writing

  • Regular requirement to sit, stand, walk, read, hear, see, speak, reach, stretch with hand and arms, crouch, kneel, climb and stoop

  • Frequent interruption of duties by staff, students, visitors and/or telephone

  • Occasional requirement to travel, both daily and overnight

  • Occasional need to work overtime, evenings and/or weekends

  • Occasional requirement to lift, carry, push and/or pulling various supplies and/or equipment up to a maximum of 50 pounds
