       POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Teacher Aide is responsible to assist in planning and implementing age-appropriate curriculum. Encourage selfesteem and independence for the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of each child. Ensure that health, safety and nutritional education is integrated into the overall curriculum planning. Responsible for the care, supervision, and safety of center children, keeping classroom and equipment clean, neat, and orderly. Must have compassion and understanding for the needs of children and families from economically and culturally diverse backgrounds, as well as fluency in Spanish.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Adhere to the Connecticut Code of Professional Responsibility

  • Ensures safety of students

  • Implements the Windham Board of Education and administrative policies, rules, regulations and directives

  • Manage the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain an advantageous learning environment

  • Prepares lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, uses appropriate techniques, and serves the needs of all learners in the classroom

  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required

  • Attends parent/teacher conferences

  • Assess student learning on continual basis and identifies areas of intervention if needed

  • Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined and approved by the Windham Board of Education

  • Maintains respect for confidential information

  • Keeps parents up-to-date of student progress through use of interim reports, report cards, and/or conferences

  • Design instruction to meet the needs of all students through both individual and small group settings as needed

  • Design clear and specific learning assessments

  • Maintain a positive learning environment that encourages open communication between the teacher and learner

  • Maintain a positive school community image that encourages ethical student behavior

  • Maintain ongoing communication with parents

  • Other duties as assigned by Administrator and/or Superintendent

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the selection of textbooks, equipment and other education materials

  • Establish and maintain professional relationships

  • Participate in professional learning by attending seminars and workshops to improve instructional practice and positively affect student achievement

QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATES:

  • Bilingual(Spanish/English) preferred.

  • Associated Degree in Early Childhood Education

  • Active subject matter certificate as required by the Connecticut State Department of Education

  • Experience working with a diverse student demographic

  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Windham Board of Education may find appropriate
