Geisinger Associate Regional Medical Director Emergency Medicine - Northeast Region in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania

Job Summary

Geisinger's Department of Emergency Medicine is looking for an Associate Regional Medical Director to represent our Northeast region.

Job Duties

The Associate Regional Medical Director (ARD) is an administrative physician manager reporting to the Regional Medical Director (RMD). This person assists with the oversight of clinical operations for Geisinger’s northeast region hospital emergency departments (Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center [GWV] and Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre [GSWB] in Wilkes-Barre, PA). The ARD is a key member of the Emergency Medicine Service Line (EMSL) management team, and as such, in this role should carry no other significant Geisinger administrative responsibilities. The ARD helps ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care to ED patients through leadership and management of their teams, collaboration with other medical services, and participation in ongoing quality committees within and external to the emergency department.

Clinical duties:

The ARD will have 0.2 FTE protected time for their administrative duties, which is the equivalent of 25 clinical hours reduction. The ARD will work a minimum of 2 clinical shifts at both of the northeast region locations each month. The remainder of their clinical hours can be worked at the discretion of the ARD (for example, all in one location, or also divided up among locations).

Administrative duties:

(The ARD’s clinical schedule should be made to avoid conflicts with these events as much as possible):

  • Serve as the RMD during times when the RMD is out of town or unavailable

  • Attend key EMSL meetings including the EM Leadership Council, the EMSL Clinical Leadership Meeting, and the GWV/GSWB report-out meetings

  • Assist with the coordination and leading of monthly staff meetings for the northeast region ED team

  • Assist with the management and publication of the monthly clinical schedules for the northeast region

  • Provide substantial input for all required evaluations and performance summaries for the physician staff in the northeast region

  • Assist with the interview and selection process for prospective EM physician and APP hires

  • Assist with the review and response for patient liaison and quality committee cases referred for EM management review

  • Serve as a liaison between EM clinical operations and EM resident/medical student education

  • Participate in northeast region medical meetings and committees which may include:

  • Sepsis committee (northeast and systemwide) (monthly)

  • GWV/GSWB emergency management committees (monthly)

  • Patient experience (monthly)

  • ED informatics (monthly)

  • Pediatric emergency medicine huddles (weekly)

  • Inpatient quality steering committee (monthly)

    Education and experience (Required): Career emergency physician with proven clinical and administrative skills. Board certification or eligibility in emergency medicine by ABEM or AOBEM
