  • LPN Positions available full-time at Mount Carmel St. Ann's in the Emergency Department working three 12-hour shifts per week from 10am - 10:30pm and Noon - 12:30am with rotating weekends and holidays.

About the job:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) , within the scope of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act, will provide administrative support and care in an atmosphere sensitive to each person’s physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. The Licensed Practical Nurse, functioning in the spirit of teamwork, under the direction of a provider or Registered Nurse is accountable for the delivery of patient care utilizing the Nursing Process within the standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines of the Organization.

What you will do:

Clinical:

  • Greet and escort patient to exam room

  • Measure and record vital signs

  • Record patient interview and history

  • Provide approved patient education materials upon direction of provider or RN

  • Prepare patient for examinations, routine screening tests, and procedures

  • Assist the provider or RN with procedures as needed

  • Perform phlebotomy and obtains lab specimens as ordered

  • Perform testing to meet regulatory requirements as ordered

  • Perform point of care testing as ordered

  • Perform EKGs as ordered

  • Prepare and administer medications (no IV medications) based on written provider order

  • Change dressings as ordered

  • Remove sutures/staples as ordered

  • Assist in emergency situations under the direction of the provider.

  • Maintain a clean, well-stocked patient care area

  • Abide by all federal mandates

  • Maintain patient confidentiality and abides by all HIPAA guidelines

Administrative:

  • Screen, refer, route and place phone calls

  • Document patient care observation and activities according to professional standards and procedures.

  • Prepare patient charts for appointment: files results of tests, procedures and ensures chart completeness.

  • Request previous medical records

  • Schedule appointments and tests: pre-certify patients for insurance coverage; set up referral contacts; review requisitions (labs and x-rays) for completeness

  • Prepare and organize department: inspects exam rooms for cleanliness and equipment for condition.

  • Stock supplies as needed

  • Timely and accurately maintain required logs and records

  • Attend required in-service training

  • Maintain continuing education units as appropriate

What we are looking for:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing

  • Current license in good standing to practice as an practical nurse in the State of Ohio, IV certification required

  • One to two years previous experience preferred

  • Effective Communication Skills

  • Current BLS/CPR and maintain current certification

  • Demonstrates skills and abilities in clinical and administrative areas including phlebotomy, office lab testing, patient care, injections, vitals and EKG.

  • Exceptional customer service skills

  • Must be able to work as a member of a team

  • Ability to work with limited supervision and to make decisions based on established policies and procedures.

  • Basic computer skills required, previous experience with EMR preferred
