SAM LLC Lead SUE Field Technician in Westerville, Ohio

Your Impact at SAM

As the Lead SUE Field Technician, you will play a critical role in managing the identification, location, and mapping of underground utilities for various projects. This position involves leading field operations, ensuring accurate data collection, and working closely with project teams to meet client specifications and company standards. You will oversee a team of technicians, coordinate with office staff, and ensure field operations run smoothly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Field Leadership: Lead and manage daily field operations for Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) projects, ensuring all work is conducted safely and efficiently.

  • Utility Identification: Use various technologies (including electromagnetic, ground-penetrating radar, and vacuum excavation) to identify, locate, and document underground utilities.

  • Data Collection & Reporting: Ensure accurate data collection, including precise utility locations and depths, and communicate findings clearly to office staff and project teams.

  • Team Supervision: Oversee and mentor a team of field technicians, providing guidance, training, and ensuring adherence to safety and operational standards.

  • Quality Control: Review and verify the accuracy of data collected by the field team, ensuring that all deliverables meet project requirements and quality standards.

  • Client & Project Coordination: Coordinate with clients, project managers, and office teams to ensure project timelines are met and any field issues are promptly addressed.

  • Equipment Management: Maintain and troubleshoot field equipment, ensuring all tools and technologies are in proper working order and utilized effectively.

  • Safety Compliance: Enforce safety protocols and procedures, ensuring the team operates within all safety guidelines at all times.

What You Bring to SAM

  • High School Diploma

  • Ability to travel for extended periods of time

  • Thorough understanding of ASCE 38 guidelines and associated quality levels

  • (4-5) years of SUE field experience preferred

  • Experience working as a “lead” on SUE QL-A & QL-B field crew required

  • Experience working as a project level field supervisor on SUE QL-A & QL-B projects preferred

  • Survey experience preferred

  • Military experience is a plus
