Oncology Nurse

Job Description

In this pivotal role, you will utilize ONS standards and guidelines, maintain accurate and safe disposal of biohazardous waste in accordance with OSHA and HRS guidelines, and be responsible for ongoing patient assessment. You will also accurately document treatment rendered to patients in OncoEMR and ensure appropriate charges are captured. You will adhere to the company's I.D. policy and procedure with every patient encounter, act as a moderator/instructor for chemotherapy classes as needed, and educate patients and their families about medications, side effects and the planned treatment course. In addition, you will prioritize incoming calls and messages from patients, family members, hospitals, nursing facilities, pharmacies and physician offices, ranging from emergent to non-urgent, and respond accordingly in an appropriate timeframe. Other responsibilities include assisting with inventory and re-stocking medical supplies, having a working knowledge of dispensing medications via Nucleus, and entering all appropriate patient charges into Nucleus.

Hard Skills

  • Registered Nurse licensed in the State of employment

  • Experience in IV infusion/therapy

  • Ability to assess patient needs and condition

  • Strong critical thinking skills

  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations

  • Current CPR & BLS certifications

  • Fluency in the English language

  • Valid Driver's license for travel to clinics

  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification preferred

  • Experience with hematology/oncology patients in a clinic or hospital

Soft Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to interact with patients and families in a caring, professional manner

  • Ability to prioritize tasks
