What to expect as a Nursing Supervisor at Saint Mary's Home

Under the direction of the Director of Nursing Service, the Nursing Supervisor is responsible for the overall coordination and delivery of resident care and clinical supervision of staff on an assigned shift. The Nursing Supervisor is empowered and accountable for taking all reasonable steps to ensure that all staff promote and deliver a level of care that meets or exceeds our residents’ expectation. The Nursing Supervisor will assure that all assigned staff are active participants in the interdisciplinary care team designed to maximize each resident’s potential for independence and autonomy. Functions as the administrative representative designee in the absence of administration in the building.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Follows all safety, security, infection control (including Category I Universal Precautions) and hazardous materials policies and procedures; performs all tasks to assure resident and personal safety and the protection of co-workers and (facility) property.

  2. Maintains customer satisfaction, and a focus on quality improvement is evident in all aspects of work. Promotes and supports the philosophy, goals and objectives of the department. Dedicated to providing services that anticipate and exceed resident and family needs.

  3. Maintains high standards of business and ethical conduct in accordance with applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations including fraud, waste and abuse. Avoids activities that could result in a conflict of interest.

  4. Promotes a productive atmosphere, facilitates teamwork and treats fellow employees, residents and families with respect and consideration, is helpful, cooperative and courteous. Carries out the spirit and intent of equal employment opportunity.

  5. Promotes and participates in educational programs, both formally and informally to include outside educational programs. Annually attends all required educational programs including at least one session each year of the following: fire safety, general facility/unit safety, infection control, disaster response, hazard communication, resident rights/resident abuse law, corporate compliance, mission and annual PPD requirements.

  6. Inspires high performance in others through both words and actions.

  7. Utilizes supervisory skills to coach, counsel, develop, empower, recognize and manage the performance of all employees under their direction. Actively promotes quality, customer satisfaction and continuous improvement in daily activities.

  8. Manages department within budgetary guidelines without compromising resident care.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

  1. Education - Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

  2. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut.

  3. Three years in Clinical practice, with one year in long-term care required.

  4. Acute care and supervisory experience preferred.

  5. Excellent communication and assessment skills required.

  6. Working knowledge of OBRA, State and JCAHO regulatory requirements.

  7. Computer literacy strongly preferred.

  8. CPR certification.

  9. Must be able to safely perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable Accommodation.
