Your future is bright with Generac! Our Corporate Headquarters in Waukesha, WI has an awesome new internship opportunity available for students interested in pursuing Electronics Engineering. This opportunity is slated to start in April with the opportunity to work part time during the school year and full time during the summer break.

Generac’s Intern position is responsible to work with other engineers to fulfill special design requests on our products. Under supervision of engineers, the intern will be designing and developing firmware/software or hardware for new, exciting, embedded products used in power generators. Participants develop technical skills through challenging assignments and usage of technical tools.

  • Assists in testing hardware and embedded firmware.

  • Develops and maintains documentation in support of the team.

  • Designs and develops hardware solutions in support of the development team.

  • Development of hardware schematics.

  • Build / modify prototype PCB assemblies.

  • Design / build cable assemblies.

  • Identify alternate sources for electrical components.

  • Prepare documentation for engineering change orders.

  • Order components to support prototype builds.

  • Assist Firmware Engineers with hardware / cabling setup and troubleshooting.

  • Design / build hardware test fixtures.

Minimal Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's Degree program in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline

  • The ability to work in Waukesha, WI a minimum of 15 - 20 hours a week during the school year and full time during school breaks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to read electrical schematics.

  • Experience with schematic capture tools (Altium preferred).

  • Experience with digital and analog circuit design.

  • Experience with electrical signals for serial communications such as RS232, RS485 and USB

  • Familiarity with lab equipment including oscilloscopes, data acquisition equipment, and power supplies.

  • Experience with soldering surface mount electrical components.

  • Able to solve basic engineering problems.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office software, especially Excel.

  • Good oral and written communication.
