Job Description
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced engineer to take the lead on product design and the engineering execution of next generation Trek helmets. Use your technical expertise to design, prototype, and develop new helmets and helmet technology in both R&D and production projects. Work as a team to create next generation products that will have a big impact on the cycling industry.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan and perform engineering research, design, testing, and development tasks for Trek helmet products of varying complexity in a team environment
Learn, create, and implement new engineering tools that will enable you and your teammates to be successful in creating best-in-class products
Create and develop engineering specification packages that effectively communicate to internal and external partners to ensure products meet project parameters
Assist industrial designers in creating new helmets that pass certification testing. This includes guiding helmet design and plastic part integration
Develop test plans that verify the product passes certification testing and maintains a high level of comfort through test riding
Effectively balance multiple projects, responsibilities, and tasks simultaneously
Translate customer / rider feedback into specifications for Trek helmet products
Coordinate engineering activities with domestic / foreign design teammates
Travel as necessary both domestically and internationally (typically China, Taiwan, and Europe)
Develop collaborative relationships with vendors and work with them to develop new technologies
Stay informed of new technology through technical publications and seminars
Work in conjunction with Trek racing teams to develop appropriate Trek helmet products that perform at the highest level
Assist legal department with patents and related issues for new and existing products
Provide expertise to bike groups, athletes, marketing, and other internal customers
REQUIRED SKILLS
Proficient mechanical aptitude and materials knowledge
Innovation mindset geared towards hands on learning and creating
Candidates should be self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced team environment
Detail oriented with proficient planning skills, initiative, and accountability
Excellent communication skills, able to interact effectively with domestic and international teammates
Ability to interpret data and solve complex problems
Positive attitude that fosters continuous improvement and flexibility
Computer aided engineering skills including solid modeling, advanced surfacing, simulation programs and advanced mathematical modeling and analysis programs
Competent computer database, spreadsheet, presentation, and word processing abilities
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Understanding of bicycle helmet impact testing and analysis of testing
Experience researching and designing helmets including new helmet materials and technologies
Ability to suggest new materials and processes to improve Trek helmet products
Experience translating customer feedback into engineering specifications
Ability to research and development new testing methods and standards to improve performance and quality
EDUCATION / TRAINING
5-10 years' experience in an engineering related field with a high degree of R&D focus and product development
BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Post graduate studies or work experience in materials science or engineering related field is a plus
