Job Description

Position Overview

The Director of Regulatory Affairs will provide guidance, advice, support and direction to management to create and execute on Invenergy’s FERC policy strategy in furtherance of its portfolio of development and operating assets. The Director will maintain strong and effective working relationships with the Staff and Commissioners of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and other relevant federal energy regulatory agencies (such as the Department of Energy) as appropriate and in conjunction with the Federal Government Affairs Team, monitor FERC agendas and attend FERC open meetings. The Director will collaborate with Invenergy business unit leadership and trade associations in identifying and prioritizing federal regulatory issues of concern to the company and formulate positions related to those issues. This individual will also be involved in obtaining regulatory approvals for Invenergy led initiatives and commercial transactions in partnership with Regional Regulatory Affairs leads and Special Projects teams.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Invenergy’s primary liaison with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (“FERC”) and lead company advocacy efforts at other relevant federal sub-agencies as needed.

  • Maintain strong and effective working relationships with FERC leadership and federal agency staff to communicate the company’s positions and concerns regarding energy policy issues

  • Monitor all FERC open meetings and meeting agendas, flag relevant decisions and summarize important orders as they occur and in a timely manner

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of key FERC Orders, regulations and current rulemakings including, but not limited to, the Federal Power Act and FERC Orders 888, 889, 1000, 2000, 2003, 845 and RM21-17

  • Collaborate with internal business partners, including Regulatory Affairs regional leads and Special Projects leads, to identify corporate-wide FERC policy priorities and coordinate with internal business units to develop company positions on federal regulatory issues.

  • Anticipate and research opportunities and risks to Invenergy’s generation and transmission development and operating assets, related to federal regulation. Communicate effectively to company leadership why those policy issues are important to Invenergy’s customers and company.

  • Work closely and collaborate with a diverse group of stakeholders, including regional transmission operators, peer companies, trade associations, environmental NGOs and academics to develop consensus positions on federal policy issues that are consistent with and promote the company’s policy positions.

  • Represent Invenergy with key coalitions and industry associations and at external forums/conferences/hearings to ensure that the policies and positions of Invenergy are effectively communicated and favorably impact the company

  • Manage External counsel and consultants

Requirements

  • MS in Policy, Economics, Environmental Science, Engineering; JD, MBA; or 7+ years commensurate job experience.

  • Knowledge of energy and capacity markets required.

  • Knowledge of federal energy and transmission policies.

  • Demonstrated ability to work/collaborate in cross-functional team settings

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute advocacy plans

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, CRM, Sharepoint, etc.

  • Travel required
