The Willard InterContinental Washington, DC is one of the most iconic hotels in the Nation’s Capital. Since 1818, the Willard InterContinental Hotel has played host to the world’s social and political elite. The hotel's 335 well-appointed large guestrooms include 41 elegant suites. Dining options consist of the Cafe du Parc, a popular French bistro with seasonal outdoor seating, traditional Afternoon Tea in Peacock Alley, the classic Round Robin Bar and Private In-Room Dining. There is over 20,000 square feet of Conference and Banquet space and the hotel hosts events ranging from intimate meetings to luxurious weddings. JOB OVERVIEW

Stock and maintain adequate beverage supplies to assist the Bartender in serving customers in a prompt and satisfactory manner.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve cocktails and/or menu items to bar guests; up-sell when taking orders.

  • Assist Bartender in the preparation of garnishes and mixes.

  • Stock outlets with liquor, beer, wine, ice, and supplies by following established procedures.

  • Clean beverage equipment, glasses, and service areas.

  • Perform pre- and post-shift side-work. Stock service station. Fold and stack cocktail napkins and prepare bowls of bar snacks.

  • Clear and clean tables in a prompt and efficient manner. Clean and/or wipe down stools, tables, chairs, walls, windows, mirrors, and floors as necessary. Empty trash.

  • May assist with other duties as assigned.

  • Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments.

  • Alert Outlet Management of any service and/or safety issues. Make appropriate service recovery gestures according to established guidelines in order to ensure total guest satisfaction.

  • Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments. Coordinate with Bartender and kitchen for ordering and receipt of food and beverages.

  • Greet all guests and take beverage and food orders in a prompt and professional manner.

  • Monitor guest behaviour and amount of alcohol consumption to determine when alcohol service to the guest should cease; notify management of incidents involving excessive alcohol consumption or impaired condition of customers; check identification whenever age of a guest requesting an alcoholic beverage service is questionable.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Basic reading, writing and math skills.

This job requires the ability to perform the following:

  • Handling, carrying or pushing items weighing as much as 50 pounds (carts, boxes, bottles, etc)

  • Standing and moving about the lounge area

  • Bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting

Other:

  • Communication skills are necessary when interacting with guests and supervisor.

  • Alcohol awareness certification and/or food service permit or valid health/food handler card as required by local or state government agency.

  • Basic reading, writing, and math skills are used at times.

  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays.

  • Require to consistently wear appropriate safety gear i.e. back brace and safety shoes.
