Job Description

Texas A&M AgriLife Research at El Paso, TX is currently seeking a postdoctoral research associate who possesses a strong background in soil science with experience in greenhouse gases (GHG) measurements and modeling. The project focuses on soil carbon dynamics in salt affected row croplands and pecan orchards of far west Texas. Applicant should have experience GHG data collection and modeling, evaluating plant performance and able to work within in a multidisciplinary and multi-institution team to evaluate soil greenhouse gas budgets, and crop productivity under elevated salinity conditions. This is a one-year appointment funded by an NSF award and can be potentially extended to two years depending upon funding. Applicants must have a PhD in soil science or related discipline and a record of publishing in scientific journals. The position will be located at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research Center at El Paso, TX. Salary commensurate with qualifications. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the PI located at Texas A&M AgriLife Research at El Paso, TX. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will participate in the water resources and salinity research program.

Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the water resources and salinity research program. Travels to study sites and research facilities for maintaining trials and sample collection.

  • Establishment, implementation, and maintenance of field, greenhouse, and laboratory research.

  • Collect, record, and summarize research data and maintain records.

  • Train and supervise student workers.

  • Disseminate project results through presentations at scientific conferences and publications in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Equipment operation, maintenance, and modification.

  • Procurement of chemicals, consumables for lab equipment and other supplies.

  • Perform other tasks as necessary under the direction of the principal investigator.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Doctoral degree in Soil Science or a closely related field.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • GIS and Remote Sensing experience.

  • UAV based Thermal/Multispectral/Hyperspectral data collection and processing experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Lab, greenhouse, and field protocols related to relevant soil parameters, soil greenhouse gas budgets and evaluating plant performance.

  • Ability to publish in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

  • Strong background in soil science with experience in greenhouse gases (GHG) measurements and modeling.

  • Experience with GHG data collection and modeling, evaluating plant performance.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license.
