The Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides nursing staff support in the areas of patient care delivery, clerical functions, and organization of the unit environment, as well as set-up and maintenance of equipment. The emphasis on each of these areas will depend on the unit assigned
As an integral part of the multidisciplinary team, the Direct Care Partner works to assist the clinic RN, NP or physician by gathering data about the patient and sharing it with the providers
Essential Duties:
Anticipates patient’s need
Maintains positive behaviors towards patients and visitors
Provides RN, NP or physician with necessary data related to patient assessment
Measures vital signs accurately Maintains clean and organized exam or procedure rooms
Appropriately prioritizes patient needs
Assists patient in safely getting onto exam table
Keeps environment safe by keeping floors and area free from fall hazards
Seeks assistance when necessary
Documentation is complete and correct on all encounters
Screening at each appointment including pain scale Consents signed for all invasive procedures Ensures medication reconciliation list is complete
Maintain B/P machine
Maintain Bladder scanner
Maintain EKG machine
Maintain Steris and supporting logs
Maintain O2 pulse oximeter
Correctly identifies and notifies appropriate department about defective equipment
Providing appropriate data derived from the patient interaction
Appropriate patient/family interactions
Effectively triages phone calls
Utilizing e-mail system Uses SBAR when sharing patient information
Manages time effectively. Able to organize and prioritize responsibilities
Takes meal breaks without incurring overtime
National Patient Safety Goals Uses two patient identifiers when assisting with procedures Uses procedural time out Uses appropriate communication between providers Completes medication list Hazardous waste management Biohazard Used instruments are rinsed and delivered to SPD for terminal cleaning Sharps and sharps containers are disposed of correctly
HIPPA
OSHA requirements (ie. No food or drink in clinical areas)
JCAHO (continuous survey readiness)
Maintains a safe work environment for self and others including the exam rooms, nursing station and lounge
Identifies and participates in data collection as assigned
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Req High school or equivalent
Req Specialized/technical training Graduate from an accredited Certified Nursing Program. (*Grandfathered from CNA Certification requirement, if hired/transferred prior to 8/2016.)
Preferred Qualifications:
Pref 1 year One year experience in an acute care setting preferred. An interest in oncology is preferred

Required Licenses/Certifications:
Req Certified Nursing Assistant (CA DPH) *Grandfathered from CNA Certification requirement, if hired/transferred prior to 8/2016.
Req Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)
The hourly rate range for this position is $18.20 - $30.97.
