Government housing maybe available. Major Duties StatementThis position is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Maintenance Division, Plateau District,Vinton Sub-district. This position assists journey-level, or other higher graded maintenance workers under general supervision in general landscaping and grounds maintenance, basic carpentry, simple electrical installations or repairs, basic plumbing work, and painting interior and exterior surfaces, and perform a variety of janitorial services. Removes trash and debris from roadway and road sites. Operates farm type tractors and associated attachments used to mow maintained roadside landscape areas. Operates trucks up to 1-ton to pick up supplies, transport materials to and from work site, picking up materials from local vendors, or plowing snow as needed. Vinton, Virginia - The duty station is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway at the Vinton Maintenance Area, which is located near Roanoke, Virginia. Career Seasonal Positions: These are Career-Seasonal positions and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal positions includes all the benefits of permanent employment, but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectees will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectees are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment. The typical season for Blue Ridge Parkway is March through October, but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions. You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You must possess and maintain or be able to obtain, within 12 months of selection, a current Class B (or higher) Commercial Driver's License. The incumbent must obtain and maintain a current NPS working Sawyer certification within one (1) year of appointment. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up 1-5 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
