POSITION TITLE: Senior Molding Engineer
LOCATION: Onsite at LSI Solutions in Victor, NY
SALARY RANGE: $110,000 - $125,000
JOB SUMMARY: The Molding Engineer at LSI SOLUTIONS® plays a crucial role in creating and overseeing thermoplastic injection molding processes, utilizing scientific injection molding principles. The Molding Engineer will leverage their expertise to ensure consistent part quality and optimal cycle times. Additionally, they will provide oversight and foster collaboration with internal resources and external suppliers to ensure the implementation of best practices throughout the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Molding Engineer
Responsible for the performance of injection molded part processes.
Develop and optimize processes applying Scientific Molding principles and other quality/engineering tools.
Review part designs for Design for Manufacturability and optimum molding performance.
Review part designs for proper resin selection and make recommendations where needed.
Review and acquire new resins, custom compounds, and color blends for potential use in new part designs.
Review mold and end of arm tool designs with mold design and mold making teams.
Responsible for programming pick and place robots using integrated molding machine controller.
Support IQ, OQ, PQ activities for replacement and improvement of molds, equipment and molding processes, including measurement and dimensional studies.
Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans.
Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely manner.
Coordinate the creation of injection molding process set ups, mold evaluations, and work instructions.
Monitor Quality data/reports to drive resolution of quality issues and work projects to improve future yield.
Support and adhere to the Quality Policy and Quality System procedures.
Senior
Lead development of complex high volume molded part production.
Actively and visibly coach employees and serve as a role model for the team.
Select injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment used to support production of injection molded parts.
Provides guidance, direction, and leadership for the areas of supervision to ensure that injection mold machine issues are resolved quickly and effectively, through fact-based analysis, prioritization, problem-solving and communication with others.
Makes recommendations on capital improvements within the molding area.
Develop and maintain processes, tools, resources, and skills to support rapid development and launch of new products and sustainment of existing products. Investigate and recommend new tools and technologies as appropriate.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Molding Engineer
Bachelor of Science Degree in a related discipline; or equivalent mix of education and experience.
1-5 years of experience with injection molding design, manufacturing, and process development.
Senior
Bachelor of Science Degree in a related discipline; or equivalent mix of education and experience.
Minimum 5 years of experience with injection molding design, manufacturing, and process development.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Ability to set up and run a plastic injection molding machine required.
Basic proficiency in Autodesk Inventor or other 3D CAD systems preferred.
Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings and schematics.
Basic understanding of machining and fabricating technologies.
Excellent Communication skills, both oral and written.
Expert in root-cause analysis and improvement proposals.
Proficient in MS Office
Self-directed, well-organized with ability to manage multiple projects.
Working knowledge of polymer material properties, additives, fillers, processing characteristics, and application to specific part requirements.
