UNESCO-UNEP-funded Postdoctoral Research Associate, Modeling Coastal Zone Nutrient Impact, Vancouver Campus

 

Dr. John Harrison has a Postdoctoral Biogeochemistry Research Associate position that focuses on Modeling Coastal Zone Nutrient Impacts. This position is based at Washington State University Vancouver campus.

 

Summary of Duties:

 

Washington State University Vancouver's Global Change and Watershed Biogeochemistry Lab seeks an individual to contribute to a dynamic program in global change and watershed biogeochemistry. The successful candidate's principal charge will be to work with an international, interdisciplinary research group to study interactions between coastal nutrient loading and harmful algal blooms (HABs) at the global scale, including development and evaluation of the Index of Coastal Eutrophication Potential (ICEP), an indicator for the attainment of UNEP Millennium Sustainability Goals. There will also likely be opportunities to participate in projects related to: 1) the biogeochemistry of reservoirs; 2) continental-scale coastal nutrient loading; and/or 3) another topic of mutual interest (See https://labs.wsu.edu/gcwblab).

 

The appointment is for one year, potentially renewable contingent on performance and availability of funds. The position will be full-time and includes benefits and a competitive salary. Washington State University Vancouver is a vibrant, Carnegie R-1 institution, located within the greater Portland/Vancouver metropolitan area, near the Columbia River, Cascade Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, and as such offers an exceptional quality of life.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

Ph.D. degree in biogeochemistry, biogeochemical modeling, limnology, marine or estuarine.

Annual Salary:

 

$54,000-$69,264

 

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
