Bonneville Power Administration Electrical Instrumentation Worker in Vancouver, Washington

Summary All hourly jobs are considered as open for bid on a continuous basis. Any BPA employee on a competitive career or career-conditional appointment may, at any time, submit an application for permanent promotions, reassignments, or change of duty stations. In order to assure all interested employees are considered, candidates are solicited annually through a Continuous Vacancy Announcement - Hourly Jobs (Bid List) identifying those jobs and duty locations, for which they wish to be considered. Responsibilities As an Electronic Instrumentation Worker, you will: Screen equipment received for repair and/or calibration. Get a detailed technical description of the problem and/or service needed. Perform the service on the spot when appropriate. Initiates internal or external repair and/or calibration if needed. Suggest and locate replacement equipment available for loan. Get equipment repaired and/or calibrated through internal sources. Receive equipment for repair/calibration. Get a detailed technical description of the problem and/or service needed. Log information into the repair/calibration tracking system. Arrange for repair/calibration with the Instrumentation Craftsmen. Arrange shipping/receiving with material handlers. Monitor the repair/calibration process to ensure timely completion. Provide status information to clients. Get equipment repaired and/or calibrated through external sources. Receive equipment for repair/calibration. Get a detailed technical description of the problem and/or service needed. Log information into the repair/calibration tracking system. Arrange for repair/calibration with equipment vendors or outside facilities. Pay for repair/calibration using master agreements or VISA. Arrange shipping/receiving with material handlers. Monitor the repair/calibration process to ensure timely completion. Provide status information to clients. Assist Instrumentation Craftsmen with evaluation tests, modifications, repair, and calibration of instruments and electronic systems. Assist Instrumentation Craftsmen and engineers in the performance of unique power system or environmental measurements. Assist internal customers (clients) in their understanding of instruments and instrumentation. Provide training and consulting service based on unique knowledge and/or experience. Perform simple repairs and calibration under the direct oversight of an Instrumentation Craftsman. Build, test, and install measurement systems under the oversight of an Instrumentation Craftsman. Requirements Conditions of Employment When you apply you will be asked a series of questions to determine your eligibility for employment and your qualification for this position specifically. You must answer all of these questions completely and truthfully. Become familiar with and follow the safety practices of the BPA Accident Prevention Manual. If exposed to health hazards, have periodical physical examinations as prescribed by competent medical authority at BPA expense. Posses a restricted electrical worker's permit or obtain one within 90 days after appointment. Posses within one year after appointment, and maintain continuously thereafter, a valid First Aid card and CPR card. Subject to call for emergency work at any time. Operate motor vehicles, including 1-1/2 ton pickups, sedans, snowmobiles, or van-type trucks. May be required to pull trailers for the transportation of instruments and equipment needed to perform tasks. This position requires a pre-employment medical exam, at BPA expense, prior to appointment due to the physical requirements of the position. Posses a valid state driver's license. Traffic citations indicating poor driving habits may disqualify applicants. The screen-out element for this position is defined as ensuring electronic instruments get repaired and/or calibrated and assisting with the calibration, repair, evaluation, acceptance testing, modification, and fabrication of instruments and measurement system without more than normal supervision. WORKING CONDITIONS: Electronic Instrumentation Workers perform most of their work at the Ross Complex under laboratory conditions. They perform some of their work at substations or remote sites. Electronic Instrumentation Workers may be required to work in adverse weather conditions, around high voltage transmission lines and their associated equipment, and around other electrical hazards. They may be required to drive vehicles over steep narrow roads and unimproved surfaces. PHYSICAL CONDITIONS: Electronic Instrumentation Workers must be physically and mentally able to efficiently perform the duties of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, without hazard to themselves or others. They must be in good physical condition sufficient to safely perform the duties of the position. Electronic Instrumentation Workers must be able to: Read printed material the size of typewritten characters. Distinguish different electrical/electronic components based on color codes or shade variations. Manipulate fine electromechanical assemblies. Lift and carry instruments weighing up to 50 pounds. Stand, walk, bend, reach, and stoop. Work in a sitting position for extended periods. Drive sedans, pickup trucks, and vans extensively, during day and night, during all weather conditions, and over unimproved surfaces. Hear the conversational voice. Speak well enough to clearly communicate by telephone. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
