AKS Engineering & Forestry Accounting Manager in Tualatin, Oregon
Job Summary:
AKS Engineering & Forestry (AKS) has an opening for a full-time Accounting Manager who would thrive in a dynamic, collaborative, team-oriented office in Tualatin, Oregon. Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, this career-building role will supervise and oversee the full charge accounting function, lead closing processes to support financial statement preparation, and support the controller and the business with month end reports and analysis.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or business with an emphasis in accounting, or related field of study required. CPA a plus
A minimum of 7 years progressive financial accounting experience in a supervisory role
Experience directly supervising accounting staff
Familiarity with engineering, architecture, construction, or similar professional service industries is a plus
Experience with BST, Deltek Vantagepoint/Vision or similar ERP software
Proficiency in Excel required; pivot tables and Power BI or similar reporting software is a plus
Ability to ensure accountability for self and staff to complete accurate, quality work within budgets, work quickly and thoughtfully, manage multiple priorities, and meet month end, year-end, and auditing deadlines throughout the fiscal year
Demonstrated strength in analysis, communication, and reporting
Self-motivated, accountable, curious, detail-oriented, proactive, and professional
Demonstrated strength in customer service
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Demonstrated organizational skills and understanding of business processes
Must be able to work on-site at our office located in Tualatin, Oregon, which serves as central accounting for 5+ office locations throughout Oregon and Washington
Must be able to work overtime on a periodic basis to achieve monthly deadlines
Job Functions & Responsibilities: As a vital leader of our versatile accounting and finance team, you will:
Lead AKS’ finance team ensuring efficient deadlines, work schedules, process scheduling, Accounts Payable and Receivable, and Assets management
Deep understanding of accounting principles and demonstrates precision in executing full charge accounting tasks, including interpretation, articulation, and accurate performance
Collaborate in preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and overseeing the review of staff work
Investigate and resolve reconciliation issues, with a focus on analyzing and interpreting data within large volumes of system-generated accounting transactions
Play a key role in the monthly close and reporting process
Prepare monthly and quarterly business excise tax returns as required
Step in for Financial Controller when required, providing support and expertise
Oversee AKS’ Vendor and Employee relationship management and effectively collaborate with our internal clients in billing, facilities, IT, marketing, and company owners
Prioritize client service, ensuring prompt responses to inquiries and requests while maintaining a positive attitude for internal and external clients
Manage business office administrative tasks as needed
Take ownership of projects and special assignments as requested
Promote the firm’s collaborative and team-oriented culture, ensuring that as the accounting manager, you actively foster cross-functional collaboration and clear communication with other departments and project teams
Comprehend the unique financial aspects of the engineering industry, such as project accounting, cost tracking, and contract management
Embrace innovation and technology within the accounting and finance functions, and as the accounting manager, you are driving efficiency and process improvements through the use of software and tools
