RNs for TeleSafe project for NY State - Per Diem

TeleSAFE provides comprehensive, compassionate care to survivors of sexual assault in New York. The program, which is delivered through telehealth, partners with NY State hospitals to train, support, or even conduct full exams (in partnership with the onsite nurses) 24/7/365. We work with a wide range of facilities all over the state, including large hospitals that simply need backup coverage or training, to rural hospitals with no existing SAFE program at all. RN II (TeleSAFE) serve in an on-call capacity. When hospital partners call us, they may be seeking answers to basic questions, partnership in completing an exam, or seeking a SAFE to fully manage a case remotely. This position is expected to be able to provide compassionate, clinically competent, and prompt service to hospitals when they seek support.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Clinical services to victims/survivors of crime-

  • Sexual assault forensic examiners serve in an on-call capacity. When our hospital partners call us, they may be seeking answers to basic questions, training support, partnership in completing an exam, or seeking a SAFE to fully manage a case remotely. This position is expected to be able to provide compassionate, clinically competent, and prompt service to hospitals when they seek support.

  • Take a minimum of two 12-hour weekday shifts per month and one 12-hour weekend shift per month, for 36 hours total per month. Weekend shifts are Friday at 7:00pm to Monday at 7:00am. Nurse examiners will be on-call at least one Holiday per calendar year.

  • Follow all company, state, and federal policies, procedures and protocols for sexual assault exams, including the National Protocol for Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Examinations Adults/Adolescents.

  • Participate in ongoing quality improvement and evaluation processes with the TeleSAFE team.

  • Maintain contact information for at least three years after contract ends for any reason, in order to facilitate testimony or other case follow up that may be legally required.

  • Collaborative meetings and professional development.

  • Complete a multidisciplinary clinical/operational/technical training with SPHP and complete any necessary onboarding and/or continuing education required by SPHP.

  • Complete 5 hours of continuing education annually on sexual assault and forensic examination best practices.

What you will need:

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree as Registered Nurse or Degree as Advanced Practice Nurse with active NY State licensure

Experience Requirements:

  • Completion of Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner training (40 hours) at a recognized SAFE program

  • Three (3) years of experience or more as a SAFE Provider, with a minimum of 50 cases completed independently

  • DOH Certification (NYSAFE); IAFN certification preferred, but not required

  • Experienced in treating patients of all ages, including pediatric; certified preferred

  • Up-to-date knowledge on exam best practices, including testing and post-exposure prophylaxis

  • Awareness of and compliance with HIPAA at all times. Maintain a HIPAA-compliant and quiet environment to use while seeing patients.

  • Demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness, and good judgment in executing the role and responsibilities of a SAFE

  • Comfort with technology and telehealth generally. Our digital colposcope is very easy to use but it is important that nurses feel competent and confident delivering care remotely. Extensive training is provided.

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) desired, though not required

Pay Range: $36.50 - $49.95

Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
