GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the Critical Care Technician is responsible for direct patient care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles. The Critical Care Technician will provide care according to Corewell Health policies and procedures

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Performs routine bedside nursing activities including ambulating, moving and turning patients, assisting patients with bedpans or urinary devices, bathing, making patient beds.

  2. Performs higher level of patient care tasks as prescribed by established competencies, and as delegated by the supervising professional Registered Nurse in accordance with departmental policies and procedures which includes starting peripheral IVs, lab specimen collection/draws, non- pharmacological and non-sterile dressing changes, performing/set up ECG’s, and oral care/ suctioning on mechanically ventilated patients.

  3. Maintains critical care equipment and supplies as directed by unit management.

  4. Maintains current knowledge/certification.

  5. Attends all required Safety Training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety and specific job-related hazards.

  6. Follows the Hospital Exposure Control Plans/Blood borne and Airborne Pathogens.

  7. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.

  8. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter and intra departmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objective.

  6. Supports, cooperates with and demonstrates safe work practices and attitudes, follows safety rules – including universal precautions - reports and prevents/corrects unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participates in organizational and departmental safety programs.

  7. Completes all required compliance standards that may be department specific and/or identified by the organization.

  8. Maintains current licensure, registration and/or certification, as applicable, at all times.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. A. Education / Training:

· High school graduate or equivalent preferred.

· Basic Life Support required at start of employment.

B. Work Experience:

· Requires a minimum six months' exhibited performance as a nursing assistant or other inpatient caregiver experience, urgent care caregiver experience or a Nursing Student.

C. Certification, Licensure, Registration:

• Current CNA certificate preferred.

D. Other Qualifications:

· Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately.

· Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals.

· Ability to trouble shoot and problem-solve various unit equipment and supply issues.

· Ability to manage multiple diverse tasks in an inherently high-acuity, high-pressure environment.

· Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred.

· Basic computer knowledge is preferred.

· Ability to move or lift patients and equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

A. Physical Effort:

· Work requires continuous physical effort; including walking, standing for extended periods, heavy lifting of patients, pushing and pulling carts and wheelchairs.

B. Work Environment:

· Work will be in the critical care patient care environment with ongoing exposure to unpleasant odors, needle punctures and inherent risk of infectious diseases. Continuous exposure to accidents while working with equipment. Continuous exposure to injury from aggressive patients.
