U.S. Army Joint Munitions Command Ordnance Equipment Mechanic (Explosives Operator/ Forklift Operator) in Tooele Army Depot, Utah

About the Position: In a developmental capacity, performs the more complex and intricate operations required in the missile and ordnance systems field and ensures the accomplishment of all assigned tasks in accordance with technical directives under general supervision. Responsibilities Perform a variety of duties including assembly /disassembly, test, replacement or repair of electrical, electronic and mechanical components of missiles and ordnance systems. Perform inspection, test and exterior maintenance of components for propulsion units associated with missiles and ordnance systems. Perform missile, component, and ordnance systems testing. Record and analyze test results to determine operational status or serviceability of components. Perform fault finding diagnosis and make necessary corrections, adjustments, or repairs to ensure proper functioning of components. Disassemble missiles into major sections such as arming, guidance, and motor assemblies; assemble recertified sections, components, and equipment and set up test configurations in accordance with appropriate specifications and instructions. Replace or repair defective components using mechanical, electrical and electronic test and measurement equipment. Perform a variety of operations in the renovation, modification, demilitarization, care and preservation of ammunition and explosives, ranging from small arms up through 8" round to include mines, grenades and rockets. Destroy a variety of explosives, ammunition and propellants by detonation and burning, following a variety of procedures specific to the particular items being destroyed. Operate electric-, diesel-, or gasoline-powered fork lift trucks to move, stack and unstack, load and unload materials in and about warehouses, storage areas, loading docks, and on and off vehicles. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Ordnance Equipment Mechanic (Explosives Operator/ Forklift Operator) without more than normal supervision. ?Performing standard repair and/or test of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, or hydraulic components and assemblies. Experience operating automatic machines performing explosives work involving demilitarization or renovation such as pull-apart machines, delinking machines, or other renovation machines. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element) ABILITY TO INTERPRET INSTRUCTIONS, SPECIFICATIONS ETC. (INCLUDING BLUEPRINT READING) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment KNOWLEDGE OF EQUIPMENT ASSEMBLY, INSTALLATION, REPAIR, ETC. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Trouble Shooting Use of Measuring Instruments Physical effort: Work involves lifting and working on production including standing, reaching, bending, stooping and carrying of items weighing up to 40 pounds. Manipulating parts and using machines and hand tools at rhythmic pace for extended periods . During fork lift operation, physical effort is required in braking and steering, manipulation of clutch, shift, lifting and tilting mechanisms. Working Conditions: Work is performed on the demolition range and outside on ramps and storage areas when weather is often inclement. There are assignments where dirt, grease, noise, and odors are often disagreeable. Required to wear protective clothing which is specially made and treated for working on explosives; including safety shoes, glasses, gas masks, and coveralls. There is a chance of injuries ranging from loss of life to burns, cuts, bruises, sprains, and nausea. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. This is an Ammunition Management Career Field position. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
