Nexus Engineering Group Trainee Project Scheduler - Refinery (On-Site) in Toledo, Ohio

Purpose:

The trainee Project Scheduler is responsible for supporting the planning, scheduling, and tracking of capital projects within an oil refinery located in Toledo Ohio. This role is critical in ensuring that capital projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with both internal standards and external regulatory requirements. The trainee Scheduler will assist in the development and maintenance of project schedules, working closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to facilitate the efficient execution of refinery projects.

Accountabilities:

  • Assist in developing and maintaining detailed project schedules, incorporating all project phases and activities.

  • Support the tracking of project progress against established timelines, identifying any deviations or risks to project delivery.

  • Collaborate with project teams to gather status updates and reflect actual progress in project schedules.

  • Contribute to the identification and assessment of schedule impacts resulting from changes in project scope, deliverables, or resource availability.

  • Participate in the preparation of schedule reports and dashboards for project teams and senior management.

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Schedule Development and Maintenance: Assist in the creation of project schedules using project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project). Ensure schedules are accurately updated to reflect current project status and forecasts.

  • Load and maintain resources within the schedule. 

  • Performs QA/QC on contractors’ schedule submittals for conformance with contract scope and terms. 

  • Evaluates critical and near critical path activity sequences. 

  • Identifies schedule changes and trends. 

  • Progress Tracking: Monitor project progress, updating schedules to reflect actual work completed and forecasted completion dates. Work with project managers to resolve scheduling conflicts or bottlenecks.

  • Reporting: Generate regular and ad hoc reports on project schedule status, highlighting variances between planned and actual progress. Support the analysis of project schedule risks and delays.

  • Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment between the project schedule and project execution plans.

  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the development of scheduling standards, processes, and best practices to enhance project delivery efficiency.

    Experience and Expertise:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.

  • 0-2 years of experience in project scheduling or project controls, preferably within the oil and gas, petrochemical, or refining industries.

  • Proficiency in project management and scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project).

  • Understanding of project management principles and practices.

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

    Key Relationships:

  • Project Management Team: Work closely with project managers and coordinators to ensure that schedules align with project plans and objectives.

  • Engineering and Technical Teams: Collaborate with engineers and technical staff to ensure that project schedules accurately reflect technical requirements and milestones.

  • Contractors and Suppliers: Coordinate with external partners to ensure that their schedules and deliverables are integrated into the overall project plan.

  • Senior Management: Report to and receive guidance from senior project controls and project management professionals. Provide regular updates to senior management on project progress and potential risks.
