City of Toledo Park Planner in Toledo, Ohio

POSITION SUMMARY:  Under direction performs work of moderate difficulty in planning, designing and developing a variety of park and open space projects throughout the City of Toledo; performs related work as required.    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: * Designs and prepares construction drawings for various projects including existing conditions, utilities, earthwork and construction details Writes and prepares technical specifications for all construction and architectural drawings Prepares master plans for various parks and other public facilities Makes site analyses as they relate to hydrology, topsoil, subsoil, vegetation, rock formations and building structures Makes cost estimates of various projects for budgetary purposes or as they relate to funding applications Makes construction site inspections to ensure construction, workmanship and materials are as per construction specifications Investigates complaints, verifies nature and seriousness, determines corrective measures necessary, and notifies complainant of action taken Attends public information meetings with citizen groups for information and input Prepares technical reports and environmental assessments of proposed projects May provide work direction to lower-level personnel. *REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of:

  • Good knowledge of the principles and practices of landscape architecture
  • Good knowledge of construction cost estimating.

  • Working skill in applying technical knowledge to practical situations
  • Working skill in making land surveys
  • Working skill in preparing site drawings and models
  • Working skill in dealing with the public
  • Working skill in preparing reports
  • Working skill in verbal and written communications
  • Working skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationship with others. 

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Landscape Architecture and one (1) year of responsible experience in professional landscape architectural work.    Must possess a valid Driver's License; possession of registration to practice landscape architecture in State of Ohio desirable. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described within this job description must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. In this position, the employee will occasionally stand or walk, and will frequently sit.   This position will require frequent driving of a company vehicle and limited use of personal vehicle. Being able to see, write and handle color and depth perception are constant essential functions of this position.
