Position Summary:

Under immediate supervision, cooks and prepares food at Thorncreek Golf Course.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provides excellent customer service to customers and members of the golf course facilities. Acts in a professional and courteous manner at all times. Works with all golf course staff to ensure the highest level of member and guest satisfaction.

Cooks and prepares all foods for Thorncreek Golf Course using established recipes. Prepares daily specials and special events foods as needed. Prepares menu items to order - breakfast, lunch or dinner. Operates ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves, fryers, etc. Ensures correctness of the temperature of appliances and food. Maintains portion control for all foods served. Controls spoilage and waste. Responsible for the quality control and presentation of all foods served. Maintains sanitary health practices around the preparation of food.

Washes dishes. Assists in cleaning tables and bar counter; sweeps/mops the kitchen. Keeps equipment, kitchen, food prep areas, counters, stoves, ovens, coolers, and freezers clean. Properly rotates all foods in stock, coolers, and freezers. Adheres to all Public Health Regulations.

Ensure that deliveries are received, stocked, rotated in the kitchen.

Reports hazards and maintenance needs for the kitchen to the appropriate personnel. Works special events and banquets when needed. May be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

Must be at least 18 years of age or older. No prior food service experience necessary. Additional schooling or training in food service and preparation or customer relations is highly desirable. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Licensing/Certification Requirements:

May need the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as the job requires.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the city of Thornton and the department.

Knowledge of basic food preparation and food arrangement.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of sanitary cleaning in a kitchen.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of running kitchen appliances.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective customer service.

Knowledge of Public Health Regulations.

Knowledge of local, state, and federal liquor laws.

Skill in food preparation.

Skill in the safe and lawful operation of all required equipment and appliances.

Skill in the safe and proper operation of a kitchen, including keeping floors dry and safe.

Skill in dealing tactfully and effectively with the public.

Skill in organizing and managing multiple competing tasks.

Ability to plan and prepare quality foods for small to large groups of people in an efficient manner.

Ability to read, interpret, understand and comply with instructions and kitchen safety procedures and standards.

Ability to use standard equipment and food processing equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.

Ability to listen well and communicate effectively orally and in writing with various audiences.

Ability to work well and communicate with the public and others.

Ability to provide quality customer service to the public and others.

Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the functions of the position.

Ability to work in a high-usage, fast-paced environment.

Ability to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stoop, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and make repetitive motions. The work is considered medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The employee must have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned. The employee is subject to environmental conditions to include temperature changes; and hazards such as exposure to high heat or moving parts.
