SUNY Upstate Medical University RN Patient Safety Coordinator in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

The RN Patient Safety Coordinator is responsible for Patient Safety activities at the organizational level with a specific concentration of those related to psychiatry. Facilitates all NIMRS, Justice Center and NYPORTs reportable events as related to psychiatry both inpatient and outpatient areas. These activities include: Monitoring the reporting of patient events in the occurrence reporting system and ensuring appropriate follow-up. Identifying, investigating and interpreting the patient event data trends for the purpose of improving quality and safety in patient care. Identifies case review triggers and practice issues to facilitate peer reviews and attending IRC committee for follow up with Psychiatric reportable events. Identifies trends and collaborates with key stakeholders to develop action plans. Acts as a quality management liaison to the RN Quality Improvement Coordinator for implementation and monitoring of action plans. Assists in the coordination of DNV, Office of Mental Health, and Department of Health activities related to performance improvement standards including but not limited to: ligature assessments. Facilitates root cause analyses and failure mode and effect analyses.

Minimum Qualifications:

NYS licensed/registered (or eligible) RN required. Bachelors degree in a health related field and 3 years of post-licensure acute care RN experience required OR Associates degree in Nursing and 5 years of post-licensure acute care RN experience required. Must be competent in Microsoft Office products, clinically competent, possess excellent communication skills-both verbal & written, and have excellent customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Nursing preferred.
