Purpose/Introduction

Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking an Instrumentation Reliability Engineer to join our team in Sweeny, Texas. The primary responsibility is to provide technical support to the Sweeny/Clemens/Old Ocean Facility to identify and eliminate equipment failures, improve the quality of new installations, improve the operation of assets, support project and maintenance activities, and ensure work is done in accordance with company/industry standards and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise on industrial instrumentation field devices (valves, transmitters, sensing elements, flowmeters).

  • Tracking availability and improving the overall reliability for the I&E equipment.

  • Provide instrument technical support to Operations, Maintenance, and Project teams.

  • Drive the plant bad actor elimination program for instrumentation and support continuous improvement of the facility’s Mechanical Integrity program.

  • Review and approve I&E specifications, drawings, and other documentation for installation and construction packages.

  • Lead and/or participate in equipment failure investigation/troubleshooting.

  • Monitor contractor equipment installation practices/procedures to ensure compliance with project specifications, relevant codes, and supplier requirements.

  • Monitor pre-commissioning/commissioning activities of instrument equipment.

  • Utilize process software to troubleshoot and evaluate designs.

  • Review preventive maintenance plans for instrument equipment and recommend changes in procedures and policies.

  • Participate in the plant’s Management of Change process as the instrument and controls subject representative.

  • Interface with other engineering disciplines/departments, customers, and vendors/suppliers to ensure successful development and execution of projects regarding instrumentation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering AND at least 5 years of instrumentation engineering experience.

  • Knowledge of various types of control valves, transmitters (pressure, temperature, flow etc.).

  • Understanding of the engineering documents associated with controls such as: P&ID's, loop sheets, panel layouts, control narratives, logic diagrams, etc.

  • Experience with instrumentation calibration calculations.

  • Strong analytical, communication (oral & written) and troubleshooting skills.

  • Requires the ability to multi-task, organize their work, and meet the facilities work schedules.

  • Must possess excellent leadership skills and demonstrate the ability to interact well with others.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a mission critical environment (i.e. refineries, chemical plants).

  • At least 7 years of instrumentation engineering experience.

  • Experience with PowerBI.

  • Experience with SAP.

  • Experience supporting a bad actor elimination program.

  • Experience with valve sizing.

  • Familiarity with SIS and DSC systems.
