Job Description

Murphy Company is currently looking for Electrical Journeyman for our Sutherlin, Oregon location. You must have an Oregon Limited Journeyman license or higher.

Primary Purpose –The Electrician’s primary purpose is to perform skilled journey level work in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic equipment, apparatus and fixtures used in the mill. The electrician must have excellent communication and organizational skills and possess the ability to effectively work with people in a fast production environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities –

  • Install, trouble shoot and maintain AC/DC electrical motors

  • Install new electrical and electronic equipment and electrical wiring according to the National Electrical Code and company electrical standards.

  • PLC programming and troubleshooting to maintain production quality

  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on plant electrical equipment

  • Install and inspect new equipment and machinery

  • Assist millwrights as needed

  • Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures including performing proper lockout/tagout procedures

Other Duties and Responsibilities –

  • Use deductive reasoning to diagnose and repair manufacturing equipment

  • Identify quality and efficiency problems

  • Responsible to know OSHA and National Electrical Safety Code safety requirements

  • Diagnose root causes of problems and propose effective solutions

  • Other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications and Experience -

  • Must have a valid Oregon Journeyman Electrician License

  • At least 2 years of electrical experience in a manufacturing facility

  • Must be familiar with NEC codes, VFD’s, proximity switches, limit switches and all other electrical components found in a manufacturing plant.

  • This position must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Must be capable of working safely and continuously promoting safe work practices

  • Proven problem solving skills
