Atlantic Health System Executive Director,Laboratory in Summit, New Jersey

The Executive Director Lab Administration leads and is accountable for all aspects of corporate Clinical Laboratory Operations throughout the system and has a key role in setting and executing departmental strategy, including developing and overseeing the creation and execution of laboratory strategies and policies, including budget planning, project delivery and people development. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, strategic planning, meeting customer service expectations, program growth and development, oversight of daily operations, delivery of cost effective services, establishing and meeting a budget, regulatory compliance, and corporate standardization of processes, policy and procedures.

  • Develop and implement strategic planning for all laboratory services across the system.

  • Accountable for growth and expansion of laboratory services including new site development and acquisition strategies.

  • Identifies, recommends and acts upon business opportunities related to laboratory services for Atlantic Health System

  • Provide leadership in the areas of laboratory clinical services, operations, compliance and expense management to the Division and individual facilities overall strategic plan to improve Laboratory Services and ensure achievement of AHS Laboratory Service Line goals and objectives.

  • Develop and strengthen collaborative relationships with the division and facility team to advance laboratory practice and care of our patients.

  • Develop, implement and coordinate expense and clinical saving opportunities, accreditation readiness and quality control, testing services, policy and procedure, process and product standardization, equipment contract standardization, and identification of tool implementation.

  • Evaluate, interpret and recommend key laboratory metrics; present and deliver to key stakeholders

  • Interprets, communicates and assures the implementation of the organization’s mission, vision and values.

  • Strategizes opportunities for business growth and development in all areas of outlined responsibilities and as assigned. Identifies trends in the market for new services. Develops business models, policies, and procedures, along with capital investments to implement business improvements.

  • Collaborates with Physicians/Providers, nursing and other members of the healthcare team to ensure excellence in patient care in all areas of outlined responsibilities and as assigned.

  • Works closely with department leadership to ensure appropriate activities of each department assigned are being delivered to patients within the established standards of care. Ensure patient care is provided in a safe and caring environment while also providing an ideal patient experience.

Availability

  • The Executive Director is not required to be on-site at all times testing is performed. However, he/she must be available to the laboratory on an as needed basis to provide consultation via telephone or electronic means.

Reapportions of Duties

  • If the laboratory executive director reapportions performance of his responsibilities, he/she remains responsible for ensuring that all duties are properly performed.

Experience/Skills Requirements

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in clinical laboratory management preferably with large areas of responsibility including three (3) years Administrative and Leadership at the director level or above.

  • Five (5) years management experience in a complex multi healthcare system or reference laboratory

  • Prior demonstrated successful experience in a multi structured health care institution or larger commercial laboratory.

  • Demonstrated experience in quality systems, project management, and regulatory compliance with CAP, CLIA, JCAHO, OSHA, EPA Accrediting Agency standards.

  • Demonstrated experience with CMS, Press Ganey and HCAHPS in relation to patient satisfaction.

  • Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining positive professional relationships with physicians, employees, peers and organizational leaders.

  • Excellent financial management, delegation and organizational skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.

  • Strong strategic planning skills

  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with colleagues, personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and the general public and possess an understanding of people and a sense of accountability, fairness, and consistency.

  • Established analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Established coaching skills that inspire team members, leaders and physicians to execute and comply with network strategies.

  • Capacity to collaborate with diverse populations of team members and physicians to gain consensus and achieve results.

  • Proven writing, public speaking and presentation skills.
