JOB SUMMARY

Translates English to ASL business concepts into appropriate cultural context, ensuring that the translated version conveys the meaning of the original as clearly as possible.

Provides real-time Interpreter services as needed for live conversations (in person, on conference calls, or in training sessions).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interprets and/or captions all auditory information in a variety of settings including classroom training, meetings, and others as they arise.

  • Schedules or works jointly with HR Manager to arrange vendor interpreters when needed

  • Assists in recruiting and translating for potential candidates.

  • Conducts training on deaf awareness, sign language, and communication techniques to JDAS staff, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders as requested by Jabil.

  • Travels to provide services and provide consultation to various Jabil facilities.

  • Verify translations of technical terms and terminology to ensure that they are accurate and remain consistent throughout translation revisions.

  • Verify translated concepts with SME’s to ensure that translations retain the content, meaning, and feeling of the original material

  • Research legal, technical, and scientific phrases to determine the correct translation.

  • Consult reference materials such as dictionaries, lexicons, encyclopedias, and computerized terminology banks as needed to ensure translation accuracy.

  • Identify and resolve conflicts related to the meanings of words, concepts, practices, or behaviors.

  • Compile information about the content and context of information to be translated, as well as details of the groups for whom translation or interpretation is being performed.

  • Manages multiple projects simultaneously, varying in scope and priority.

  • Performs live “on the spot” Interpreter services.

  • Prioritize work to meet deadlines.

  • Performs Quality Assurance on all translated material.

  • Creates and improves processes, forms, and templates.

  • Comply and follow all procedures within the company confidentiality policy.

  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

MANAGEMENT & SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Job is NOT directly responsible for managing other employees (e.g., hiring/termination and/or pay decisions, performance management).

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be fluent in American Sign Language

  • 3-5 year experience in language teaching and/or translating

  • Able to work independently and meet deadlines

  • Highly organized and detail oriented

  • Proactive/Self-Started/Self-Motivated

  • Proficiency in use of personal computers, Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) and e-mail skills required.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.

  • Expert in ASL and English

  • Min. 3 years working as an Interpreter.

  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.
