You will be part of a team of dedicated architects leading the housing industry toward "path to zero" reducing the amount of energy required to operate buildings and moving to clean energy sources. You will also work independently on a variety of multifamily housing developments located throughout Minnesota seeking funding for rehabilitation that results in preservation of housing that is decent, safe, affordable, as well as sustainable.

Top candidates may be requested to provide a list and/or portfolio of the projects they have worked on.

Essential Job Duties

  • Review estimated costs for new construction and rehabilitation work scopes for reasonableness.

  • Assist team members in assessing and ranking proposals on severity and urgency of critical rehabilitation needs.

  • Review concept/schematic design, design development, 70% bid documents,100% contract documents, and proposed rehab work scopes for conformance with applicable Minnesota Housing's Building Standards.

  • Review architect and construction agreements for conformance with Minnesota Housing's guides.

  • Perform contract administration duties, which includes monitoring construction progress, preparing trip reports, reviewing and approving change orders and contractors' applications for payment.

  • Assist asset management and compliance staff as they inspect physical conditions of existing housing developments within Minnesota Housing's portfolio.

  • Work with other staff architects to regularly review and update Minnesota Housing's building standards, which promote decent, safe, and durable housing, as well as energy conservation and protecting our environment.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed below. Only applicants whose resumes clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for this position.

  • Four (4) years of experience working in all aspects of architecture from schematic design, design development, contract documents and throughout contract administration.

  • Applicants must be licensed as an architect with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design or obtain licensure through reciprocity within 90 days of hire.

  • Cultural competency as demonstrated by skills for communication and interaction across cultures and awareness of one’s own world view and that different world views exist.

  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to drive to project sites located throughout the State of Minnesota.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on multifamily residential projects involving new construction and rehabilitation of all sizes and scopes of work.

  • Experience with Enterprise Green Communities Criteria, Passive House, SB2030, etc.

  • Working knowledge of building codes.

  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Bluebeam Software.

  • Knowledge of HUD's lead-based paint regulations, as well as asbestos and radon regulations.

Physical Requirements

Requires moving office items such as file folders and small office tools. A certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.
