BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF UTAH COUNTY INC St George Area Director in ST GEORGE, Utah

Overview: The Boys & Girls Clubs of Utah County provides afterschool and summer programs to youth throughout Utah. The Afterschool Programs are located on school-site locations or at the Provo Clubhouse and generally run M--F from 1--6pm during the school year and 8-6 during the summer. While at the program, youth receive a blend of academic and enrichment activities. The afterschool and summer programs serve youth in Elementary, Middle, Junior High and High Schools. The elementary sites are licensed childcare sites. In addition, this program provides healthy food and snacks to youth at the sites. The program provides transportation from designated schools to the Provo Clubhouse.

JOB SUMMARY: Primary Function: Directs/manages overall operations of 1-5 designated Afterschool Program sites within a specified geographic area with the primary concern for activity and service delivery, supervision and training of staff, facilities management, transportation, budgets, membership administration, and the child nutrition program.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities): Recruit, select, manage, train, coach and retain staff and volunteers on classroom management, lesson planning, positive discipline, safety and other trainings as needed. Must have knowledge and experience training other people on how to work with youth.

Supervise and direct 1--8 staff members (site coordinators and youth development professionals) on a daily basis. Ensure quality programming, safety, and fun by managing and coaching staff members. Must have knowledge and experience in program evaluation, staff evaluation tools, and strategic program planning.

Communicates effectively and often with the school and site coordinators to ensure grant requirements, school alignment, parent and youth needs and interests are met, and quality programs are delivered.

Recruit and retain staff in the program. The Area Director is responsible for an average daily attendance goal. Must have experience in effective recruitment and retention methods.

Ensure site coordinators and staff deliver quality activities and are grant compliant. Must have experience or training to effectively evaluate staff performance and to help staff deliver high quality activities.

Knowledge and experience working in a licensed childcare center and/or school. Responsible for compliance with child-care rules and regulations.

Manage site financial resources. Control expenditures against budget making recommendation for expenditures to purchase supplies and salaries. Must have experience or knowledge in basic budget management.

Responsible for regular program reports, data gathering, and meeting deadlines. Responsible for ensuring compliance with the federal Child Nutrition guidelines. Market and communicate to the public who and what the organization is and does. Conducts weekly staff meetings and trainings with the site coordinators. Conducts weekly individual site coordinator meetings to determine the needs of individual programs. Ensures quality improvement of programs by conducting program evaluations. Organizes and facilitates the participation of all sites in quality assessments (Quality Tool, Action Plans, Program Quality Assessments, and National Youth Outcome Initiative. Develops partnerships with host schools to facilitate efforts of site coordinators and work for alignment of programs.

Organize monthly YDP t rainings for all sites in their area. Researches community resources to share with families. Encourage and support effective service director roles and functions, acting as a liaison to Club sites, and keeping them advised of activities and needs of the afterschool rganization. Ensure accountability to the Operations Officer.

Demonstrated ability in personnel supervision, facilities management, and the recruitment and retention of key personnel.

RELATIONSHIPS

Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with staff to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information. Has contact with members as needed to disciplines, advise, and counsel.

External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems and to publicize Club.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience. National Administrator Credential (NAC) is preferred. Associates, bachelors, or graduate degree from an accredited college and successful completion of at least 12 semester credit hours of coursework in childhood development, elementary education; and Child Development Associate (CDA) issued by the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition; and National Administrator Credential (NAC) A minimum of 3 years work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activies based on the developmental needs of young people.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS Must be at least 21 years of age

Preferred background or degree in education

A minimum of three years experience working in a youth center

Valid driver's license

Proficient in Microsoft Office software and general computing skills

Knowledge of recreation and youth development theory

Ability to recruit, train, supervise, and motivate staff

Strong communication skills both verbal and written Ability to deal effectively with members discipline problems Working knowledge of budget preparation, control, and management Demonstrated leadership skills Ability to manage multiple tasks and to develop solutions to problems with limited supervision Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Club staff, subordinates, community groups, and other related agencies Reliable transportation (mileage reimbursement available)
