General Responsibilities: Under general supervision, operates truck and performs a variety of manual labor duties in maintenance of county roadway and drainage systems. Essential Duties and Functions: • Operates dump truck to perform a variety of activities in highway and drainage maintenance, construction, and repair projects (e.g., hauls material to and debris from project sites, plows snow, spreads salt, etc.); mows grass; receives calls over two-way radio and performs functions requested; picks up materials from suppliers and verifies material weight, type, work location, etc.; submits tickets to proper authority for further processing. • Performs various manual and semi-skilled labor activities (e.g., manually applies stone, gravel, tar, and blacktop to road surfaces; erects fences and guardrails; cuts trees and shrubs; pulls fences; picks up litter and debris; assists in installation of culvert pipe; assists bridge crew in bridge maintenance projects; etc.); flags traffic. • Operates light and hand-held power equipment (e.g., chain saw, jackhammer, etc.); observes safety standards. • Operates medium to heavy equipment (e.g., front end loader, power broom, forklift, bulldozer, roller, grader, etc.) to perform rough grade level work in absence of higher level equipment operator. • Performs routine preventive maintenance on various equipment operated; checks fluid levels, tire pressure, lights, brakes, and other safety devices; reports problems and/or malfunctions to proper authorities and assists in repair activities. • Maintains all required licenses and/or certificates. • Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions. • Lifts and moves up to eighty (80) pounds a distance of thirty (30) yards. • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance. • Attends workshops or training seminars related to duties. • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor. Qualifications, Licensure, or Certification Requirements: • Must possess a valid commercial driver's license of the appropriate class and the appropriate endorsement(s). • Any combination of education, training, and/or experience which evidences an advanced knowledge of heavy construction and maintenance techniques and procedures and a demonstrable ability to operate medium sized construction equipment. • Knowledge of highway construction and maintenance procedures; safety practices and procedures; agency policies and procedures; department policies and procedures. • Skill in vehicle operation; operation of two-way radio; operation of medium to heavy equipment. • Ability to carry out instructions in picture, written, or oral form; add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers; cooperate with co-workers on group projects; demonstrate physical fitness; recognize hazardous conditions; operate hand-held power tools; perform basic mechanical inspections; lift and
