Central Utah 911 IT Specialist in SPANISH FORK, Utah

We are seeking a skilled IT Specialist to join our dynamic team at Central Utah 911. As point of contact for all technical issues, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our emergency response systems. This position requires a combination of technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication skills.

 

Under general supervision from the Information Technology Manager the IT Specialist, performs standard level professional information technology work installing, configuring, and maintaining critical systems and applications for Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), 911 Phone, Radio and Voice Recording systems utilized by Central Utah 911 Emergency Communications Center; maintains and repairs routine issues with hardware and software; and troubleshoots, installs, and repairs user issues desktop hardware and software. Works in an on-call rotation for 24x7 support.

 

Essential Job Functions

 

Candidates and incumbents must be able to perform the following essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation:

• Assesses needs and develops hardware and software solutions as required by users (determines requirements, makes notes, designs hardware and software solutions to accommodate needs).

• Assists with network equipment and wi-fi technology.

• Assists in the development of technical policies and procedures.

• Installs new hardware and software, trains users, and assists with problems.

• Make necessary changes to systems as required and instructed.

• Installs and assists users with third party software (Microsoft Office, Linux, Windows, VMware, Acrobat, CAD Software etc.).

• Maintains, modifies, and upgrades existing systems.

• Work with IT Manager with coordination of agencies served software and systems.

• Maintains e-mail system and backup system and assures integrity and safety of data.

• Assists in maintenance of file servers, desktop computers, laptops, and printers.

• Studies and develops proficiency with new hardware and software as required to assist agency.

• Stays current in the field by consulting with outside vendors concerning software and hardware.

• Stay up to date on emerging technologies and industry best practices to continuously improve IT systems and processes.

• Reads trade journals and advises users accordingly.

• Certified in vendor specific applications.

• On-call 24x7 rotation.

 

Minimum Qualifications

• Preferred graduation bachelor's degree in an information technology or other closely related field.

• 3 - 5 years of increasingly responsible employment as a computer technician, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Experience working with VMWare, Windows Servers, Active Directory, Group Policies, Windows Desktop Operating Systems, Microsoft Office (M365).

• Understanding of Network fundamentals. Knowledge and use of Fortinet network products a plus.

• Understanding of public safety CAD systems a plus. Motorola Flex will be given higher consideration.

• Understanding of public safety radio systems a plus. VHF, UHF, 700/800 Mhz a plus.

• Understanding of 911 phone systems a plus.

• ESRI ArcGIS knowledge a plus.

• Must be able to be certified with UCJIS (Utah Criminal Justice Information Systems) within 6 months of hire.

• Must be able to be certified with Motorola Flex CAD within 1 year of hire. Already certified a plus.

• Any combination of education and experience that provides an applicant with knowledge, skill, and ability to successfully perform the work will be considered.

• Must be highly self-motivated and a ble to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

• Available for off-hours emergency support including weekends and holidays, through an on-call rotation.
