Scope of work

The Clinical Utilization Management (UM) Supervisor is responsible for monitoring, supervising, and performing daily Utilization Management functions, which includes but is not limited to pre-admission, admission, and concurrent utilization reviews. The Clinical UM Supervisor will provide daily, regional supervision of Clinical Utilization Management teams, comprised of UM Coordinators and Analysts. This position requires clinical experience and experience supervising staff. Central to the Clinical UM Supervisor's role is to assist the regional Clinical Utilization Management Manager with implementing operational changes and serve as the primary point of contact for Utilization Management barriers or concerns. Ultimately, the Clinical UM Supervisor will be responsible for supporting positive and safe patient outcomes, employee evaluations, and customer experience.The Clinical UM Supervisor will work remotely and report directly to the regional Clinical Utilization Management Manager.

  • Responsible for providing daily, regional supervision of Clinical Utilization Management teams, comprised of UM Coordinators and Analysts. Manages daily staffing schedules to maximize staff utilization and resolve daily staffing issues.

  • Assists the regional Clinical Utilization Management Manager with implementing department goals, policies, and procedures. Additionally, escalates quality and risk issues to the regional Clinical Utilization Management Manager.

  • Responsible for regularly monitoring staff performance, through performing chart reviews, and staff adherence to department procedures. Assists the regional Clinical Utilization Management Manager with developing corrective action plans, completing staff performance reviews, and identifying training opportunities.

  • Collaborates with the regional Utilization Management Educator to develop training materials and provide targeted training based on the performance of regional Clinical Utilization Management teams.

  • Serves as the initial point of contact for all relevant stakeholders that may be involved with Clinical Utilization Management functions, including but not limited to Utilization Management staff, Physician Advisors, and payors. Additionally, serves as the primary point of contact for Utilization Management barriers, concerns, or complaints.

  • Serves as a Utilization Management content expert across areas including but not limited to medical necessity criteria, patient status, level of care, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Required Associate's Degree in Nursing OR Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (Preferred)

  • 3 years of relevant experience Three years minimum of relevant clinical experience in an acute care setting Required

  • 1 year of relevant experience One year minimum of supervisory experience Required

  • Experience working in an organization of size and complexity comparable to Corewell Health. Preferred

  • Registered Nurse (RN) - State of Michigan Upon Hire required
