About the Job:

  • The Insurance Agent & Advisor impartially provides education about the availability of health insurance plans available to the recipient.

  • Facilitates the enrollment process in the various health coverage programs offered by the HIE department.

  • Provides information in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner to the population being served by the HIE department.

What You Will Do:

  • Actively demonstrates the organization’s mission and core values and conducts oneself at all times in a manner consistent with these values.

  • Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety and medical information.

  • Provides fair and impartial enrollment services to recipients needing, desiring and inquiring about health coverage programs. This includes the initiation and completion of enrollment applications.

  • Reviews and understands an applicant’s current medical diagnosis and history for determining appropriateness of program / insurance plan eligibility.

  • Assures to remain impartial and avoid any conflict of interest that may arise out of the enrollment of a recipient in a health coverage program.

  • Adheres to compliance with Indiana and Michigan Department of Insurance regulations for insurance sales and enrollment.

  • Adheres to all Federal Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) regulations governing health insurance sales and enrollment.

  • Responsible for securing all necessary documentation and verifications for application / enrollment completion.

  • Files applications with the appropriate federal, state, local or non-government agency and ensures timely follow through with the specific department, agency and/or carrier guidelines.

  • Refers individuals who need help resolving a problem with their health plan or with their premium to a consumer assistance or ombudsman program or to another appropriate agency that can help with a grievance or appeal.

  • Attends seminars, meetings, and training programs to remain current on issues relevant to areas of responsibility.

  • Reviews newsletters, bulletins, directives, legal briefs, etc. and provides updates and policy changes to all applicable parties Maintains all appropriate licensure and CEUs required for fulfilling their job duties. Identifies problems brings them to the attention of the department manager for follow up and resolution.

  • Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.

What's required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, Business and /or Behavioral Science or related degree highly preferred.

  • 5-6 years Health insurance, Medicaid and Social Security Eligibility enrollment experience required.

  • Bi-lingual candidates highly preferred.

Licensure:

  • Must acquire Indiana and Michigan, Department of Insurance, Accident, Life & Health Insurance (ALH) License within 3 months of employment.

  • Valid Indiana driver license and proof of valid automobile insurance.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1-2years experience in Health Insurance Sales, Medicaid Eligibility, Children’s Health Insurance Program, and knowledge of state and federal aid programs required.

  • Prior on the job training in medical clerical skills helpful.

  • Prior leadership or management skills preferred.

Other Job Requirements:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. These communication skills must foster team collaboration, ownership, and accountability. Ability to handle conflict and confront challenging issues in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, cooperation, tact and diplomacy are required to influence others to act appropriately both internally and externally to the department. Must demonstrate a cooperative demeanor and be comfortable interacting with a wide variety of people.

  • Excellent computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office products.

  • Cannot have had the following denied, suspended or revoked: insurance agent or broker license, Indiana or Michigan Navigator certification or any other equivalent license or certification.

  • Cannot have been convicted of a disqualifying felony or other crime, including any unfair trade practices or fraud in the insurance business.

  • Must provide own transportation and be able to travel and work at various locations.

  • Assigned hours within your shift, starting time, or days of work are subject to change based on departmental and/or organizational needs.
