Privacy Officer for RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group

Responsible for the privacy activities of the RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group. The Privacy Officer will identify opportunities to reduce privacy risks and establish a safer experience for our employees and patients. This position serves as a resource for providers and staff and partners with the organizational legal team. Activities include, but are not limited to privacy:

  • Complaints

  • Investigations

  • Policies and Procedures

  • Education

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor s Degree

  • Minimum 5 years experience with HIPAA privacy or other related healthcare field

  • Healthcare licensure/certification

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

Preferred:

  • Experience with healthcare regulatory rules and laws, preferably in the ambulatory setting

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

  • Must be willing to travel to all practice locations in the entire State of New Jersey and possible new locations in the future.

Responsibilities:

  • Investigate, document, and determine the probability of compromise for privacy investigations/grievances via complaints, corporate compliance hotline, incident reporting, Epic Data Integrity reported events, MyChart patient portal reported events, and others as reported within the Medical Group -MG

  • Knowledge of EHR navigation

  • Demonstrates and maintains a high level of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Strong ability to work independently

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations

  • Demonstrates awareness of cultural competence

  • Excellent writing, research, analytical, and time management skills

  • Complete privacy risk assessment, create patient notification correspondence, and document corrective action plans for confirmed privacy breaches.

  • Respond to government investigations regarding MG practices in conjunction with the System Privacy Officer.

  • Manage reporting of confirmed privacy breaches to the Office for Civil Rights annually.

  • Develop and oversee privacy sanctions log.

  • Manage, investigate, and coordinate all Protenus privacy monitoring with RWJBarnabas Health Legal Affairs, Operations, and Human Resources -HR.

  • Liaison with third-party Business Associates regarding privacy matters and investigations.

  • Facilitate patient requests to opt-out of the Health Information Exchange and/or Research Partners.

  • Manage patient requests to amend PHI per the Policy.

  • Act as a liaison with other system Privacy Officers.

  • Develop and maintain HIPAA Privacy education presentation for use within MG sites.

  • Develop articles for the MG newsletter related to privacy.

  • Attend any MG committee meeting as a representative for Privacy as needed.

  • Facilitate effective communication regarding privacy initiatives.

  • Present HIPAA Code of Conduct Education at the MG new hire orientation in collaboration with HR.

  • Supervision and oversight of the Privacy and Risk Coordinator,

  • Perform other duties as assigned
