This position is located in Le Mars, IA

Under limited supervision of the plant physician, optimizes the health of the worker through preventative and curative services. These services include diagnosis, screening, management, and surveillance of occupational illness or injury, emergency health care treatment, health promotion and protective services, safety training, and employee counseling and assistance.

What you will do:

Implements the Occupational Program in accordance with policy of the plant.

Coordinates first aid and safety programs onsite according to contracted services:

Follows up on all employee accidents and/or illnesses.

Initiates and coordinates protocol for movement of the employee for work related and non-work related injuries/illnesses.

Maintains Instructor status of First Responder and CPR courses.

Recognizes and communicates issues/occurrences utilizing established lines of authority, and assists in identifying ways to resolve variances or unacceptable outcomes.

Actively participates in clinic meetings, committees, conferences, and in-services.

Provides and/or coordinates planned short term nursing care for contracted businesses:

Provides treatment for work and non-work incurred illness/injury. Under direction of Medical Advisor, establishes protocols for care and treatment of employees. Coordinates and/or evaluates return to work cases, positive screens and first aid encounters. Collaborates with attending physicians (company/private) to suggest referrals for the appropriate intensity of services for the employee.

Implements return to work programs on contracted site locations by:

Monitoring employees before sickness, leaves of absence, during and after return to work. Collaborates with employee and employer management to implement return to work functions. Maintains a collaborative work relationship with employee, employer, physicians, adjustment companies, attorneys, and all persons providing treatment modalities.

Workers Compensation Case Management:

Monitors and records employees access to treatment and assigned plan of care. Provides ongoing medical, financial, and legal status of clinical risks of all cases. Develops and implements criteria to monitor case outcomes. Collaborates with attorneys regarding any litigated cases. Knowledgeable of state workers compensation policies and procedures and appropriately utilizes them in all cases.

Coordinates health preventative programs:

Conducts health screens for company. Collaborates with employer well programs and offers input and suggestions. Actively participates on employee/employer preventative health committees. (Ergonomics, Blood borne Pathogens, exposure, etc.) Provides in-services, if requested, on well topics.

Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, MercyOne and Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.

Performs clinic nurse assessments by:

Making clinical nursing decisions independently based on scientific principles, systematic approach, and experience. Daily walk around assessment. Ongoing follow up and evaluation of employees environment according to medical protocols. Provides work site analysis as requested. Identifies and prioritizes ergonomic hazards. Demonstrates ability to remain calm in an emergency situation.

Provides accurate documentation for each employee by:

Initiates and maintains the Occupational Health Program medical record on each employee according to policy of the plant. Assists with maintenance of OSHA logs and/or any other workers compensation records requested. Provides regular company reports including employee statistical and cost savings data, nurse activities, projected and accomplished recommendations

What we are looking for:

Registered Nurse, licensed to practice in the state of the contracted employer. Bachelor of Science in nursing is preferred.

Basic Life Support Certification (BCLS) is required.

A minimum of 3-5 years previous nursing experience in community health, occupational health, or emergency room is preferred.

Is able to communicate effectively with customers and all members of the health care team.

Is able to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change.
