Gama-1 Technologies Cloud System Administrator in Silver Spring, Maryland

GAMA-1 Technologies, LLC seeks a remote Cloud Systems Administrator to join our team. The candidate will support GAMA-1's growing Cloud Services practice. In particular, the successful candidate will help drive GAMA-1's efforts to support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Cloud and National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) initiatives. These strategic cloud initiatives intend to increase the bureau's IT efficiency, improve IT delivery, and reduce costs. This position supports the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) initiative.

The ideal candidate will have hands on experience administering cloud technologies. Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Non-Supervisory Role

     Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Direct the cloud administrative duties within a cloud environment (s) Including, but not limited to, Compute, storage, and notification and queue management, and infrastructure as Code (IaC)

  • Direct the assemble and documentation of agile-related artifacts (i.e., from user studies, backlog management activities, etc.). 

  • Provide guidance regarding infrastructure movement techniques including application transfer/migration into the cloud.

  • Direct the development of cloud business best practices and processes. 

  • Work directly with multiple teams and business units to understand business needs and translate those to IT/business capabilities

  • Participate as part of UAT and development process (as needed)

  • Other duties as assigned

    Required Skills:

  • 6-8 years’ experience administrating cloud compute, storage, and infrastructure as Code (IaC)

  • Experience using coding languages such as Perl, Java, PowerShell, PHP, Ruby, Python, etc.

  • Hands-on experience using cloud services, containerization technologies, to include building Docker Container Images, scripting languages, open standard data interchange formats, job scheduling and management software tools (ECR, EKS, YAML, PYTHON, JSON, OpenPBS). 

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services, code-defined infrastructure, configuration management tools, and CI/CD

  • Experience with AWS Lambda and “Serverless” systems

  • Experience in large-scale enterprise IT environments

  • Strong verbal and communications skills, working with senior leadership and across organizational teams

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills (ability to explain technical issues in layman's terms)

  • Excellent communication and writing skills

    Desired:

  • Federal government experience

  • Working knowledge of Jira projects, workflows, issue types, permissions, and notifications

  • 2+ years’ experience with Jira, Jira Service Management, Confluence, BitBucket

    Education and Experience:

  • BS/BA in Computer Science, a Technical Field, or other related disciplines OR 4+ years of experience supporting an AWS

  • Preferred Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, Architect with Google Cloud Platform: Infrastructure
