Amazon UX Design Manager, Search & Conversational AI in Seattle, Washington

The Search and Conversational AI (SCAI) UX team is seeking a problem-solving, forwarding-thinking UX Design Manager. This role is for a hands-on leader who establishes a vision and strategy, scales their impact by empowering other designers on the team, leads the delivery of and is a key contributor to design artifacts. They will develop strong relationships with fellow Design Leaders and partner closely with Product and Engineering counterparts throughout the product development process to launch a bar-raising experience for customers. Key job responsibilities

• Work cross-functionally to drive elegant design solutions from early concept through final implementation and iteration

• Define, develop, and socialize the vision for innovative new solutions, solving some of our toughest challenges through design-driven approaches

• Use systems-level design thinking to drive accessible and scalable design solutions

• Hire, coach, and support a growing design team; act as a role model, mentor, and motivator in creating a diverse and inclusive working environment.

• Lead cross-team conceptual development; work across multiple organizations to identify overlaps and efficiencies in design and product thinking

• Proactively plan ahead, look around corners, and effectively partner with design, product, and engineering counterparts to prioritize work, resolve issues, and remove roadblocks

• Use data and customer insights to confidently defend design solutions with senior leaders

• Lead brainstorming and critique sessions that foster big thinking while raising the bar on the details

About the team

The Search and Conversational AI (SCAI) Design team is responsible for the customer experiences (CX) that makes it easier and more enjoyable for new and experienced Amazon shoppers to gather inspiration, find the right products within Amazon’s vast selection, and evaluate products for purchase with ease. We work collaboratively with a global, multi-disciplinary team of product managers, engineers, and scientists to bring the product vision to life. Our goal is to delight customers when a best-in-class Search experience where we accurately understand their intent and return an experience that feels targeted and customized to them and their shopping mission.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Seattle, WA, USA

Basic Qualifications

  • 6+ years of design experience

  • 3+ years of leading design teams experience

  • Experience managing teams

  • Experience with a variety of design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, Visio, Axure, and Dreamweaver

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working cross-team and synthesize feedback and input from product management, engineering, testing, and marketing

  • Experience leading design teams in problem definition, artifact rendering, cross-functional collaboration and delivery, and user validation and measurement

  • Experience with agile/scrum

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $225,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
