The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for a Lab Assistant Technician WORK SCHEDULE

  • High school graduation or equivalentANDOne year of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experienceOR

  • Completion of a laboratory assistant or technician course approved by the American Society of Clinical PathologistsOR

  • Equivalent education/experience PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The technician will perform slide distribution, monitor worklist for new orders and pull blocks or slides, file blocks, and maintain the frozen section room, assist with frozen sections, set up specimens for accessioning, accession specimens, laboratory tests and other laboratory work in support of technologists, faculty, and staff.

  • Retrieve specimens for gross room & frozen section room.

  • Assist in preparation & set up & maintenance of frozen section room staining series and supplies. Assist in Frozen sections as required.

  • Assist with FNA slide preparation as required.

  • Maintenance of laboratory equipment such as, cryostats, grossing stations, and stain line.

  • Perform laboratory specimen processing consisting of receiving, identifying, sorting, preparation and internal laboratory distribution of tissue and cytology specimens.

  • Perform clerical tasks as required.

  • Maintain in Frozen Section room, cleaning & disinfecting various equipment, i.e. cryostats, and work areas.

  • Maintain stock/ supplies and orders supplies as needed for clinics, department, and operating room.

  • Trouble shoot specimen submission problems.
