Amazon Front End Engineer II, AWS Amplify in Seattle, Washington

Are you passionate about open source and building UI? Join the Amplify UI team and help us empower front end engineers to build full-stack web application apps on AWS! The Amplify Framework (https://docs.amplify.aws/) was launched in November 2017 and has quickly gained popularity within the industry. Adoption and usage of the framework has also grown rapidly but it is still Day 1 for the team and for our product with an extensive set of new capabilities scheduled for delivery in 2024.

The Amplify Framework is a collection of open source libraries and tools that enable developers to create mobile and web apps on AWS. Amplify codifies best practices through programmatic interfaces to help developers effortlessly interact with AWS services. The Amplify UI team’s goal is to make it easy to build complex applications quickly with cloud connected UI components.

Key job responsibilities

  • Build new UI components with cloud connected capabilities.

  • Follow best practices in user interfaces and insist on high standards.

  • Collaborate with the team on product roadmap.

  • Work with designers and stakeholders.

  • Work in a Scrum team, attending Daily, Planning, Grooming and Retro meetings.

  • Mentor other engineers, define the technical culture, and help grow the team.

  • Contribute to estimating and planning of work.

  • Take part in oncall support of the library.

About the team

Amplify UI is an open-source UI component library that brings the simplicity of AWS Amplify to UI development. Our customers are full stack developers building applications on AWS. The Amplify UI component library offers a number of cloud connected components which simplify complex workflows like Authentication and Storage management with while allowing customization and themability (https://ui.docs.amplify.aws/).

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Seattle, WA, USA

Basic Qualifications

  • 2+ years of non-internship professional front end, web or mobile software development using JavaScript, HTML and CSS experience

  • 1+ years of computer science fundamentals (object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving and complexity analysis) experience

  • Experience using JavaScript frameworks such as angular and react

  • Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with common front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JS, TypeScript, and Node

  • 1+ years experience maintaining open-source libraries

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $115,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
