Banner Scottsdale Sports Medicine is a three-story, 80,000-square-foot center welcoming and serving athletes at all levels, from youth to professionals. Our comprehensive, one-stop destination offers numerous sports medicine services and specialists under one roof, with internationally and nationally renowned sports medicine providers and leaders. Services include orthopedic surgery, primary care sports medicine, concussion care, ambulatory surgery center, physical therapy, medical imaging, performance assessment and training, strength and conditioning, sports nutrition, and sports psychology.

As a Performance Scientist, you will be joining a collaborative and team-oriented multidisciplinary staff in the High Performance Center (HPC). You will conduct daily athlete assessments, reporting, and collaborate / assist with the implementation of programming to support the injury prevention, performance, and recovery goals of clients and athletes at an individual and/or team level across a variety of sports and activities. In addition, you may support business development/sales initiatives within the community and at the facility and participate in education and engagement activities with clients/athletes, parents and staff. The ideal candidate will be a proactive self starter, have excellent communication and engagement skills, demonstrate a strong team-oriented/collaborative work ethic, and be systems-oriented.

This position requires a minimum of 3-5 years related experience including a clinical work background and experience with professional/elite level athletes, and a master's degree in Human Performance, Exercise Science, Sports Science or a related field. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is also required. NSCA - Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) and Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) certifications are desired.

This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week. The schedule will be varied and include morning, afternoon, evening, and/or weekend hours. Some travel may be required. Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the collection, management, and analysis of biomechanical and sports science data/information. This includes the creation of systems, processes, workflows, and associated data management/visualization inside of the athlete management system and other relevant properties to support clinical and business objectives. This position will integrate with sports medicine, concussion, orthopedic research, physical therapy and high performance. This position will be responsible for developing a nationally recognized musculoskeletal program providing insights into human movement science, musculoskeletal biomechanics, rehabilitation, sport science, performance enhancement, and recovery. This position will also be responsible for implementing programs, including high performance training of athletes within the High Performance Center.

CORE FUNCTIONS

  1. Provides evidence-based expertise in leading the development and implementation of an industry leading, evidence-based assessment and evaluation, analytics, and reporting system for athletic performance using high speed marker-less motion capture systems, force plate technology, sports science hardware/software's and data integration applications for athletic development and a variety of sports including but not limited to baseball, softball, basketball, sprinting, golf, volleyball, soccer, football.

  2. Establishes a nationally recognized performance/sports science program and collaborates on research initiatives in partnership with orthopedic surgeons and sports medicine physicians and select partners. Focuses research on musculoskeletal biomechanics, human movement science and concussion with local and national grant funding opportunities to be a key driver to this program.

  3. Develops and implements clinically applicable human movement assessments and workflows designed to develop personalized data-driven injury prevention, performance, and recovery programs for athletes and teams of all ages and athletic ability. Collaborates and integrates with the high performance team to support athlete program design, the measurement of athlete outcomes, brand growth and other clinical and business activities.

  4. Develops and maintains quality control and system infrastructure as it relates to data collection from human performance and integrates into injury prevention/performance enhancement and recovery protocols that are integrated for athletes of all levels and ages. Data collection is also incorporated into scientific peer reviewed research studies in all aspects of human movement.

  5. Leads the development and oversees the execution of all Banner Athlete data collection, management, and reporting including visualization within the High Performance Center to measure and monitor athlete status and outcomes. Collaborates and integrates where applicable with sports medicine and orthopedics with oversight and implementation of a mentoring program for residents, fellows, and students from various backgrounds.

  6. Assists with the implementation of programming, including performance enhancement training of athletes in the High Performance Center. This includes training athletes of all ages and abilities, as well as assistance with program design utilizing the Optimal Performance Training Model.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, skills, and abilities as normally obtained through the completion of a Master’s degree or equivalent in Sports Medicine, Human Performance, Exercise Science, Kinesiology or related and five years of related experience.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Experience creating/collecting/analyzing/reporting/actioning an objective athlete profile consisting of, but not limited to: range of motion, movement efficiency, static and dynamic balance + proprioception, isometric / eccentric / concentric strength + power, 3D Biomechanics - kinetics/kinematics, etc. Previous experience programming and delivering athlete injury prevention and performance enhancement training. Previous experience programming and delivering recovery regeneration protocols for elite athletes.

Employees working at Banner Scottsdale Sports Medicine, second floor must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

A current Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES), Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) or Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification is preferred.

Experience with professional/elite athletes related to biomechanical analysis and human movement.

Prefer prior use of Fusionetics (range of motion / movement efficiency testing), Delos (static and dynamic balance + proprioception testing and training), Vald (Force Frame, NordBord, Dynamo), 3D Biomechanics - forceplates + markerless motion capture specific to Baseball, Basketball, Gait Analysis utilizing Instrumented Treadmill, Golf, General Jump Testing, Return to Play (Vendors - KinaTrax + Treadmetrix).

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
