Responsibilities Job Summary The CRN's practice is guided by the ANA Standard for Professional Nurse and Code of Ethics in addition to the Clinical Research Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice. The RN has knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, concepts, and procedures as applied to the care of the patient population served. The CRN serves as a coordinator, clinical nurse, educator, consultant, and leader in clinical research. Applies experience and knowledge to execute complex research protocols within the clinical setting. Interacts daily with physicians, nurse practitioners, management, staff, patients, and families to promote clinical expertise, patient safety, resource utilization and adherence to regulations for research. Partners with the patient and care team members to manage complex physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual symptoms of patients and families. Uses advanced assessment skills to identify problems and develop a comprehensive, individualized plan of care. Provides comprehensive care based on the principles of growth and development across the lifespan of patients served. Provision of care is given as described in the HonorHealth patient care policies and procedures in addition to unit specific department operating policies. The CRN III supports efforts to advance clinical knowledge and skills. The CRN III serves as a preceptor to new hires and students and maintains current training through HonorHealth. The CRN assists the staff and students to seek and complete the tasks required to complete their competency skills. The CRN continues to enhance their knowledge in the nursing management and care of patient problems and conditions as required. The CRN may continue to improve the patient experience, clinical outcomes and works to promote a healthy work environment. The CRN practices theory-based nursing that is evidence based utilizing a Shared Governance model for decision-making. The CRN III serves as a team lead and is also an active member of a council or committee at the campus level or higher. Possess the knowledge of how to collect health data in a systematic and ongoing manner, prioritizing data collection as determined by the patient’s immediate condition or needs and involving the family. Analyzes the assessment data in determining diagnoses, and utilizes the nursing diagnosis to develop, implement, evaluate, and revise an appropriate patient plan of care that is family centered, developmentally and age-appropriate, and culturally relevant. Practices critical thinking, analysis, and clinical judgment through use of the nursing process to address physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of patients and families; Collaborates with members of the multidisciplinary team to develop plans that are consistent with patient’s individual needs and goals. Coordinates clinical trial procedures utilizing evidence-based nursing practice and expertise to develop and coordinate a plan of care designed to meet the physical, psychosocial, and social needs of patients and their families Demonstrates knowledge of the research process by synthesizing research protocols to provide principal investigator and sub-investigator with an understanding of the requirements of the studies; Monitors and reports significant study events including adverse events, study amendments, and study closures; Assures proper documentation throughout research conducted to meet the Code of Federal Regulations and ICH Guidelines for Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP), federal, state, local, protocol and institutional requirements to facilitate a high level of data integrity. Assists with recruitment and enrollment of patients to clinical trials; Evaluates and assesses a subject’s suitability for inclusion in studies. Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations. Applies the nursing process into clinical practice by monitoring care and progress of patients, serving as a clinical liaison for any interdisciplinary or consulted care; Monitors the treatment of any side effects and the status of patients. Provides clinical direction, coordination and execution of research projects including interaction with clinic departments, education of staff, provision of resources required and collaboration in management of individual project budgets; Collaborates with staff within the institute and with outside organizations in the completion of clinical research trials. Integrates ethical principles in all aspects of practice. Enhances knowledge of culture and diversity needs for specific populations. Manage patient and/or family phone calls, collaborating with the physician or nurse practitioner as needed to obtain orders for the management of the patient (telephone triage); Provide patient and family education and support. Participates in professional growth to maintain clinical practice that is evidence-based and consistent with nursing policies, procedures and licensure requirements including professional scope and standards; Adheres to the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statement in all aspects of professional practice. Evaluates one’s own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and relevant statutes and regulations of the system and department policies and maintains current knowledge in nursing practice. Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice. Collaborates with others in the practice of nursing professional development at the institutional, local, regional and state levels. as colleagues. Interacts with and contributes to the professional development of peers and other health care providers through positive role-modeling, fostering peer relationships, and participating in preceptor and/or mentor programs thereby creating an environment for quality practice. Develops and evaluates standards of care for patients that are evidence-based. Identifies changes that should be made in nursing practice using an evidence-based approach. Participates in and uses evidence-based research to identify strategies for improving nursing practice, and patient outcomes. Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning and delivering patient care by utilizing all resources effectively and efficiently. Active membership in a council/committee at the campus level or higher. Supports staff and patients serving in a team lead role. Qualifications Education Bachelor's Degree BSN or Associate Degree Nurse. Associate degree nurse must complete BSN within 60 months of hire OR have 10 years of Registered Nurse Experience (direct or indirect) Required Experience 2 years Minimum of 2 years experience as RN Required Licenses and Certifications Registered Nurse (RN) State And/Or Compact State Licensure State licensure Upon Hire Required Other specialty certification such as oncology certified nurse (OCN); Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC); Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (CHPN), Certified Clinical Research Coordinator, etc - Within 2 years from date of hire or movement to level III Required Competencies applicable to clinical setting - Chemo, stroke, etc 1 Year Required Basic Life Support (BLS) Required ACLS/NALS required as appropriate for assigned unit Upon Hire Required
