Would you like to help Sarasota County and its citizens to recover from recent disasters? Then this is the role for you! As the Disaster Grant Recovery Specialist (DGRS) you will support the County with its disaster recovery efforts. You will work together with various County Departments as well as federal and state government to complete the financial recovery process for the County. The DGRS will successfully develop processes, gather financial documentation, prepare FEMA Project Worksheets, compile, and submit disaster financial claims to the appropriate agencies. This grant-funded position is expected to last approximately five years.

  • Partner with County Departments to provide direction that disaster recovery work is conducted and completed under federal guidelines. Develop strong, facilitative relationships. Mentor, educate, and assist colleagues and customers in all phases of disaster recovery management.

  • Manage and completes the disaster claims process to include, project validation reviews, expenditure documentation, procurement documentation, pictures, site inspections, submittal of final claim and any other required documentation by FEMA or other federal / state agencies.

  • Manage the communication process with state and federal agencies to include scheduling regular meetings, tracking and following up with any requests as well as scheduling needed site visits.

  • Manage disaster grants fiscal operations. Develop, monitor, and review complex financial calculations and reports while evaluating and assisting with developing priorities and expectations for financial disaster recovery programs.

  • Research, analyze, and implement federal, state, and local rules and regulations related to disaster finance compliance process. Identify potential impacts / implications of policy changes to Federal/State/local programs and provide briefings as required.

  • Prepare databases to generate and present complex disaster grant and project reports for Board, committees, and executive management. Analyze data and make recommendations for solutions, then execute solutions.

    E-Work/Hybrid Work: Currently this position is eligible to e-work up to 2 days per week! After you complete your first six months, contingent on work requirements and other factors, you’ll be eligible for this fantastic benefit.

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

About You

To thrive in this position, you must have-

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, or other related field and minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible professional experience.

  • A Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

  • A CPA license may substitute for one year of the required experience.

  • Related professional experience or certifications may substitute for the required education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience managing disaster grant process.

Starting Pay Range: $61,131.20 - $75,000.00 depending on qualifications
