We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Asbestos Permitting Coordinator to join our team. As our Asbestos Permitting Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in managing the permitting process for asbestos-related activities, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards. You will also coordinate responses to open burning complaints, as well as perform a backup role for compliance inspections of permitted stationary source facilities.

  • Review asbestos County permits to evaluate for NESHAP applicability, reviews asbestos surveys, enter and track county permitting actions into the Acella Permitting Application.

  • Schedule and conduct routine and complaint-related inspections of asbestos renovations and demolitions to determine if asbestos containing materials exist and to ensure the material is handled in accordance with applicable regulations. Generate compliance inspection reports.

  • Conduct investigations of potential violations and document problems found during inspections or investigations. Initiate enforcement action, draft enforcement correspondence, meet and communicate with facility personnel and other entities to discuss findings and resolutions, and conduct follow-up action.

  • Coordinate with code enforcement entities. Provides support for cases seen by the Special Magistrate, and testify, as necessary, in other hearings or court proceedings. Aid in the negotiation of consent agreements.

  • Maintain Asbestos certification on an annual basis.

  • Consult with the public concerning asbestos regulations and conduct or participate in public information seminars.

  • Responsible for data entry of all notifications (asbestos renovations and demolitions), inspections, and non-compliance into the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) database.

  • Track abatement and demolition projects identified through county and municipal permitting to ensure notifications are provided. Investigate and track potential non-notifier cases and provide reports to supervisor with recommended compliance actions.

  • Coordinate local Open Burning program by coordinating a response to open burning complaints, drafting, and initiating enforcement correspondence, and tracking in Acella. Coordinate public outreach and education programs for Open Burning.

  • Investigate and track air pollution incidents/complaints as needed and document in Acella and/or AirCom. Resolve noncompliance issues through education, direction, cooperation, and enforcement. Prepare enforcement documents and supporting documentation. Act as code enforcement official in bringing cases before the Special Magistrate, and testify, as necessary, in other hearings or court proceedings.

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

About You

To thrive in this position, you must have-

  • A Bachelor’s degree in one of the biological or physical sciences, Environmental Engineering, or a related field and three (3) years of professional experience.

  • A Master’s degree may substitute for one year of professional experience.

  • Professional experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college degree.

  • Valid Florida driver’s license

    Starting Pay Range: $57,577.60 - $63,003.00 , based on experience
