Do you have prior experience managing a high-volume sports or athletics facility that hosts regional and national tournaments? Our 17th Street Regional Park and Fruitville Park are in need of a Regional Complex Manager; in this crucial role you will be responsible for the overall coordination and management of the parks’ operations. Upon completion, 17th Street Regional Park will be Sarasota County’s newest major sports tourism facility, featuring adult and youth softball fields, and artificial turf multi-purpose fields! This position will be involved during the park’s construction period, lay the groundwork for all park operations and business strategies at the site and will be instrumental in promoting it as a premier destination for major regional, national, and international softball events.

About the Position

In this role you will be responsible for:

Facility Operations -

  • Serve as the primary coordinator for 17th Street Regional Park and Fruitville Park programming and maintenance within the Sports Tourism, Facilities and Programs division.

  • Create staffing and operational plans, long range objectives, budgets, work standards and procedures.

  • Oversee the development of turf and field maintenance programs in coordination with the 17th Street Regional Park Maintenance Supervisor and Parks Internal Operations staff.

  • Implement, monitor, and negotiate vendor contracts.

  • Oversee the 17th Street Regional Park Supervisor to ensure athletic fields and facilities are kept in excellent condition, maintaining structural and aesthetic integrity, and keeping in compliance with national safety standards.

  • Oversee the daily coordination of events, vendors, and customer service.

  • Develop reservations and booking procedures for the Park, balancing community use with economic impact generating tournaments and events.

  • Lead the technical review of requests for athletic tournaments, special events and general use of the athletic fields and open space.

  • Develop facility rental permits and leads negotiations with renters, ensuring that final permits are consistent with County Code, Park Rules, Board policy, department procedures and any associated management plans.

  • Effectively build and manage relationships between staff, contractors, vendors, and other work units to optimize business operations of the park.

  • Develop and update the business plan and the Unit Management Plan for 17th Street Regional Park programming, vendor use, revenue, athletic stewardship, and maintenance.

  • Analyze program data to determine if financial terms of proposed and existing agreements are sound regarding the business plan, operation plans, and target levels of park services.

  • Ensure timely collection of revenue, compliance with licensing and insurance requirements, cash handling procedures, and adherence to contractual obligations for reservations and programming.

  • Manage revenue and all financial reporting, key performance indicators, and assist with park inspections and reporting.

Sports Tourism Development -

  • Develop booking strategy and service standards for tournaments and special events and ensure they are aligned with Sarasota County’s sports tourism strategy and facilitates the production of economic impact within the County.

  • Maintain awareness of sports tourism, athletics and business trends that support County’s sports tourism strategy goals and provide new opportunities for community benefit through increased economic impact.

  • Review and update 17th Street Regional Park web pages and provides oversight of staff’s written communications.

  • In coordination with PRNR Outreach team, develop marketing and sales plans for the parks including advertising, newsletters, social media posts and tradeshow presence.

  • Prepare and present information to event rights holders, community organizations, citizen groups, potential sponsors, and other groups to promote the Park.

  • Coordinate with Visit Sarasota County and PRNR Sports Tourism & Programs Supervisor on preparation of bids for major sporting events and provides all necessary information to support the promotions of the Park to a national audience.

  • Lead Park tours for event rights holders, National Governing Bodies, and other tournament organizers.

  • Respond to media requests as assigned. Evaluate event RFPs to determine feasibility and additional resources needed to host event.

  • Provide guidance to Tier I supervisors.

  • Hire, coach, develop, and mentor personnel.

Community and Business Engagement -

  • Maintain public records.

  • Assist in the development of a sponsorship program for the Park and provides support in implementation and management of program.

  • Maintain positive relationships with potential Park business partners such as concessionaires and with Park property neighbors, responding to inquiries and addressing potential situations or complaints.

  • Participate in business and park planning process, providing revenue expertise and assistance to various committees, and working groups.

  • Coordinate, plan, and lead initiatives with other Sarasota County Government work units to develop revenue potential from concession, partnership, and user agreements.

  • Initiate and develop RFP's or other related proposals for a variety of business initiatives with Parks and Recreation and Natural Resources and coordinates the review with appropriate staff.

  • Make determinations on whether proposals are consistent with policy and plans, and pose legal, financial liability or risk to the County.

  • Respond to citizen, press or media contacts, both orally and in writing and reports to the Sports Tourism, Facilities and Programs Manager.

  • Prepare presentations and present to the BCC and internal/external customers.

Work Hours:

  • Full-Time, 40 hours per week.

  • Must be available Sunday - Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  • Nights and weekends are required for scheduled events!

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Parks and Recreation, Sports Administration, Tourism, Business or Public Administration, Planning, or job-related field and Four (4) years of experience in a job-related field.

  • -or- Eight (8) years of job related professional experience in management of a high-volume youth/recreational sports facility.

  • Two (2) year of supervisory experience.

  • Valid Florida Driver's License by date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.

  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional.

  • Certified Sports Tourism Strategist from the Sports Events and Tourism Association.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.

Physical Demands: Must occasional lift and/or move 20 pounds.
