Intermountain Health Payroll Supervisor in Santa Fe, New Mexico

Job Description:

This position provides expert, high-level knowledge of payroll processes, procedures, and policies. Provides technical, analytical, and communication skills necessary to lead and supervise a team of payroll professionals to superior payroll practices and customer service. Provides specialized support for multiple directors, managers, departments, business units, or functions. Provides input and expertise to improve and support to payroll initiatives and projects.

This is a 100% remote position however, currently we are unable to consider candidates for remote opportunities in the following states: California, Hawaii, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington. In person training may be required for this role.

Required to work every other Sunday for Payroll.

Works under limited supervision, acting on own initiative and direction. Supervises other employees.

  • Takes ownership in planning, organizing, implementing, and accomplishing department day-to-day functions and goals to relieve and assist the manager of complex details and advanced administrative duties. Identifies improvements to be implemented in processes, office organization, and workflow.

  • Independently investigates assigned problems, determining method of research, data, and information requirements as well as analysis techniques. Tactfully handles difficult situations with staff and customers while remaining positive and professional. When needed, escalates issues to the appropriate manager/director.

  • Supervises the performance of payroll staff including quality monitoring, customer satisfaction, attendance, orientation, on-boarding, and continuing education.

  • Establishes group goal setting and guides individual payroll staff goal setting. Implements constructive action per system policy.

  • Facilitates the achievement of system and department goals including employee engagement and customer service initiatives.

  • Maintains expert knowledge of payroll procedures and reports. Acts as a resource to payroll staff and managers.

  • Takes ownership for and oversees all administrative functions including delegating assignments and ensuring work completion.

  • Identifies educational needs and establishes continuing education offerings for managers, employees, and payroll staff.

  • Assists with adherence to the department budget. Assesses employee workload distribution to ensure completion of all tasks within staff budgeted hours. Analyzes opportunities for improvement and adjusts as needed.

  • Monitors compliance to Intermountain policies, procedures, and guidelines.

  • Ensures the continuation of excellent employee, timekeeper, and manager support.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Four years of complex payroll experience including three years of experience with leadership responsibilities. Examples include providing training to others on their job duties, coordinating the work of others, coordinating projects, acting as a team lead, and directly supervising others.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal verbal and written communication skills including being proficient in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and other language skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Experience with the direct supervision of others to include hiring responsibilities, performance evaluation and coaching, along with constructive action.

  • Experience working in a healthcare setting.

  • Experience with payroll processing.

Physical Requirements:

  • Interact with others requiring the employee to communicate information.

  • Operate computers and other office equipment requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.

  • See and read computer monitors and documents.

  • Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
